Opek Hi Performance Tri Band Amateur RadioandScanner Antenna - SMA 6M/2M/440

The Rubber duck antenna that came with my Vertex VXA-710 was sufficient enough to lasso the airwaves from the aircraft in the area, but the voices of airbound pilots and those on the control tower / Departure and Arrival / Center frequencies were often scratchy and snowy. Without this antenna you will experience a lot of white noise mixed in with your incoming radio messages. The VXA-710 Radio is showing it's true ability now whenever I attatch this antenna to it. Everything is much clearer and I'm glad I spent the extra money fot this addition to an already great little radio. If you spend several hundred dollars for a transceiver, it's well worth the extra 30-40 dollars to clarify the sound it gives you by buying a high quality antenna. I haven't had my pockets lined by the company who sells this product, I'm a stand alone customer who bought a Vertex VXA-710 that sounded scratchy even at the airport, but was very impressed with the quality of this antenna when used with my radio over the rubber duck antenna that comes in the box. I bought this antenna for my new scanner to replace the small one that was included. This improved my reception dramatically. I seemed to pick up more signals and the local signals had less static.One note is that I had to buy a right angle connector to connect to my new scanner (Home Patrol) since the antenna is located on the side of the unit.I am very pleased with my purchase.

To any that are reading this.... the OEM antenna on your radio or scanner is a joke... I would have expected something like this antenna to be included in an expensive scanner...if you are on the fence and think this antenna might not be much better... Don't be fooled. I am not going to tell you it will allow you to pick up transmission from across the state but I can tell you it picks up all the transmission MUCH CLEARER! The range is slightly improved but overall performance is on a completely different level!

... Over the stock duckie but the length may not be suitable for some. It is flexible but not like a duckie. I use mine at home to improve reception and transmission on my HT Yaesu. Very noticeable difference.

Reception is not nearly as clear using this as the dual band (smaller) antennas on top end Icom 51 D-star

I purchased this to go onto my Yaesu FT-60 handheld. The reception acrossed both 2 meter and 440 was horrible. I switched to a Diamond antenna and havent looked back.

This is a nice product. I found it feels a bit long for my Yaesu D8. Works well when outside of cab of vehicle or outside of building, just becuse clearance. My 5 watt radio can now reach a repeater 20 miles away, my factory antenna was not able to touch.
