Quiet and easy to use
Bought a cheaper version of this, and it broke a drive belt almost daily. Sent it back for a refund and bought this one. This is much better, and has been running for a couple of weeks now with no issues. It is also considerably quieter than the other one (although I still wouldn't want it in a room I spend a lot of time in). Feels good quality, it's been running well and it is really simple and easy to use. Very impressed.

Efficient rock tumbler
I’m very new to this past time but I’ve already tumbled some beach stones. The tumbler rotates quite fast and pebbles from the beach are already quite smooth so I’ve not needed to run the tumbler as long as the booklet says. I’m not looking for absolute perfection either. I’m happy with the results so far .. I run the tumbler in a spare room and thankfully it doesn’t seem to add much to my electric bill.

Great to use but worn out after 3 months
I bought this one after a cheaper model just kept snapping the drive belts. I use it for glass and its been great. Easy to fill and empty and to clean. I've been really pleased with it but now I think the motor is packing up as its really slow and doesnt always move at all. Very disappointing as it doesnt run 24/7 and only with a small load so I would expect it to last longer than 3 months. Howver I contacted National Geographic and they sent out a replacement straightaway so fingers crossed it was a faulty machine.

Good Quality small machine and stones, ideal for a beginner.
Great for a beginner. Handy booklet to tell you about the stones. I got 2 large chunks of Adventurine which look nice but can't be made into earring or pendants. Plenty of Rose quarts some of which disappeared to small pieces, could be used in UV Resin jewellery. 1 exceptionally tiny amethyst , very little use except for small pendant. Plenty of Tigers Eye. One largest piece of Sodalite. Quite a bit of 'Dalmation stone? . Dont know if Hematite is in my lot, some Jasper and poss agate ... hard to tell. The machine itself is quiet enough in my conservatory and can't be heard through the house, easy to use . The booklet gives clear instructions too which is good. The grits are only enough for one tumble but the polishing gem foam can be used 6 times. The tumbler is sturdy and easy to use but mine has a tendency to bleed to the bottom edge of the tumbler onto the rollers and butt up against the rotating wheels so I turn the tumbler tub around . Not sure what lasting effect this will have on the tumbler rubber. All in all I would recommend this set , as ive bought more gem stones from NG to practice on. Its neat and compact and easy to use, but for children I would recommend adult supervision and it to be kept out the way of curious little fingers. You need a lot of patience as each procedure takes days.

Works well
Does a decent job. Very happy with the rocks I’ve tumbled and has been a fun activity to do with my 11 year old son. My only gripe is the rock supplied are not that interesting but they do end up lovely and smooth and shiny so you can’t fault the tumbler. Also do be careful you tighten the lid properly. I didn’t the first time I used it and it makes a really horrible mess if it comes off!

Very noisy and instructions not so helpful but otherwise good
I bought this for my daughter’s 8th birthday as she’s very into rocks and stones and loves finding pretty things.I have to admit I’m shocked how noisy it is after comments to say it’s not! It is unbelievably noisy! I can hear it in the next door room with my daughter’s room shut. No way she would be able to sleep in there or get any peace. I can’t really think of a room to put it that the noise wouldn’t bug me and that’s on the slowest setting. The others are even more audible. The inductions were ok… but I had to go online to look up things such as: do you use the whole packet of grit or measure some out. I assumed it wouldn’t be the whole packet as that means I can only do one rock cycle. So yes please amend instructions to include amounts etc as this would be very helpful. We only started the cycle yesterday so I can’t comment on quality or finish yet but already I’m wishing it wasn’t such a slow process due to the noise. My cats aren’t impressed either, their ears go right back if they enter the room. Haha

Robust build
Predominantly metal in construction- this is a great introduction to the hobby of rock tumbling. The rubber drum keeps noise to a minimum but by its very nature, you will need to find an “out of the way” place to put it or the constant roll of rocks will drive you mad.I covered the box it came in, in sound-deadening foam and place this over the tumbler when in operation. This quietens down considerably. Now on stage 2 of 4 of our first Agate Mix. Can’t wait to see the end results. There was a very clear difference after just 5 days with (coarse) grit level 1.

Super tumbler for the price.
There is nothing to dislike about this tumbler, for the price compared to other AND being a hobbyist it suits us very well. My husband has had a stroke so can no longer do the things he used to I use this hobby to give him,1 something to explore on utube to learn about and remember (very key)2. To actually ‘ remember’ to check it3. To give him something to look forward to doing like, searching for pebbles etcThe excitement he gets from ‘opening the tumbler’ is lovely to watch, he loves what comes out.Later on this year he hopes and I hope he can start to use some tools to cut stones. He has lost 50% of his sight so it is going to be a big learning curve. This tumbler is just so easy for him to use and not to noisy either. We put it on a small carpet and that seems to work well.Thank you geographic people for helping us to move forward with a lovely simple hobby
