The jury is still out- Edited 12/31
Just put my 300 in service, and here are some initial observations; *It feels solid even with it's plastic case. *The screen looks fine, doesn't knock your socks off, (doesn't cost 600.00) *It upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 quick as I turned it on. To be honest it works almost as good as my Kindle fire with a couple of sideloaded programs. Get the feeling JB is still a work in progress. *A LOT of apps you will never use. *The stock e-mail client would not work.(installed K-9) *The stock browser was not much, neither was Dolphin, Firefox, Chome(I suspicion a JB problem)Settled on Maxthon, worked well. * Being used to my 7" Kindle fire, it felt, well, big and heavy, however...received the dock for it 2 days later-NEW BALLGAME. * I use my tablet sitting in the recliner most of the time, the keyboard sits in my lap, presto "mini-laptop" without the hassle. * If not for an issue with an extremely sensitive touchpad, I would be a happy camper.. More later12/31/12; Putting the tablet thru it's paces, more observations.*Keyboard, updated-Understand that it doubles the weight, so your tablet will not as nimble to handle as "undocked", but it really adds to battery life, along with a slot to add 32 qigs more memory.*One of the reasons I wanted to try a "pure"Android tablet was the ability to customize the UI. I downloaded another onscreen keyboard(there's many), I found that typing directly on the tablet was much easier.*As it turns out, Droid Mail turns out to be the best e-mail client, Maxthon continues to work well as browser.*Goggle play is not as easy finding apps as Amazon app store..*overall, I'm getting used to the Transformer, and liking it better all the time. I can still read my Kindle books with the Kindle app, and order with the Amazon Market Place app..

Nice first tablet
I bought the Asus TF300 as a first tablet for my wife. Her needs are basic - social networking, internet access, and some simple gaming. Thus far, the Asus has met all of her needs and she has commented frequently on being pleased with the device. I decided on the Asus based on price and other reviews, and the Android operating system which offers many more applications than other tablet operating systems. We have used the tablet during several trips and internet connectivity has been simple and fast. Portability and size make it a nice tool for my wife. It boots fast, setup was simple, and the graphics better than most that we looked at when deciding on a device. Speed of the device has proven as fast or faster than the laptop that I use on our journeys. So far there have been no problems. There was one incident of inability to boot but it magically disappeared when reconnected to the power source. The Asus 300T has met our expectations. As a first tablet - or a tablet for those with simple needs - this device is recommended and should fit your needs at a reasonable cost.

Defective after OTA updates - two in a row.
This is a review on the two TF300T tablets I have had delivered in this past week, fulfilled by Amazon, Sold by DRK Dist. I have bought three other TF300T, and I would give five stars to those. Last Christmas I purchased two of this model tablet for my adult age daughters, and they love them. Middle of the year my TF100 had a fall, and though it works, it no longer reads from the Micro SD card slot. I jumped on the opportunity to upgrade to the TF300T, and I love it. This year my eldest daughter came to visit, and sold my wife on tablet computing - Woot - another TF300T! I set it up so that the tablet would be delivered on Christmas Eve, and before my wife made it home, I had it charged and loaded with her Google Account. After the first update, I saw a message in the upper left corner stating "signature match". All's well. But after the second OTA update I noticed the message had changed - "no certificate to inject". I figured again this was all part of the update. Fine and dandy, I continue, and finish the update. I see that the firmware was fully updated to the 10.6.1.27.5, the same as mine. I download some apps for my wife to enjoy, wrap it up, and wait for the fun to begin on Christmas Day. Next morning we are all exchanging presents, and my wife get's her tablet - On power on, the message "no certificate to inject" is still there. I am now concerned, and do some research. Seems that Asus owners have been seeing this error since November of 2012. Owners with the problem have seen no, some or system crashing bugs when the error is present on their systems. I read through forum after forum, to see if there were any options for a software fix and tried all the suggestions. No fix miraculously happened. Ok, I have three perfectly performing units, and I have FAITH! I set up a return for this tablet, and order another - also fulfilled by Amazon, Sold by DRK Dist. This tablet arrives on Friday evening, and I charge it overnight. This morning, I go through setup, and again, on the second OTA update, bang! Error is back. Rather than to go through the same fruitless steps to be disappointed again, I call to Asus Tech Support. I spoke to a pleasant young lady, who had me run through a soft reset, and walla - nothing changed. I asked her about my options if there might be a software fix not seen on the Asus download list that could fix the problem? She said there was none. I probed further, and had be confirm my fears, that the only fix would be a hardware repair at their depot. I explained that I have already returned one tablet, and rather than have a brand new tablet repaired, I would just return it. I allowed her to make the offer for getting me a working tablet through Asus, but alas, no go. So this Christmas was ruined by the Grinch of Electronics Present - defectives out of the box. I have no idea whether other tablets from other sellers are good or bad, and unfortunately, I will not find that out. My wife feels burned with the two defective tablets, and wants nothing to do with them now. Merry Christmas everyone!
