A lot of information
Used this for an invertebrate zoology class last semester and loved the class. This textbook is jam packed with information. The class I took didn’t go nearly in as much detail. It is pretty dense but the organization and images provided are extremely helpful for learning. Loved the class and this textbook

Excellent Text and Reference!!
I am no fan of the lead author, I thought the previous edition of this book was about as bad as they come, and my review in 2003 lead the way at Amazon, where I said as much. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1IJJ45L74DFMH/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=0878930973 I also didn’t care much for the first edition, so you will probably realize I purchased the 3rd edition with more than a little trepidation.Anyway, I will be brief, other reviewers have discussed it in detail. The book arrived yesterday afternoon and I spent an enjoyable afternoon looking through it and snacking on a paragraph or two. One main comments: Comment 1). YOWZA!!!! - they hit it out of the park, and that’s really hard to do when you’re playing marbles! This book is what an invert text book should be, and it appears to be a good general reference on the subject as well; current up to last fall in most groups, I think. The change from the 2nd edition is absolutely marvelous, wonderful, surprising, and very, very welcome. To the authors, as an old invertebrate zoologist all can say is, "Thanks!!"The only problem that I see is the price. Yea Gawds!!! $150 for an Invert Text!!! And they don't even throw in a guided trip to the tropics to see some good inverts.

The book for invertebrates with may updates
Most living things are invertebrates, especially arthropods. Therefore this book covers almost all animals, with the same depth and excellence of previous editions. One of the original authors remains, Richard Brusca, in the company of new authors W. Moore and S.M. Shuster. In addition to the topics in evolution, morphology, genetics and development of all the invertebrtae phyla, the book is updated in the new proposals of animal phylogeny. An example of this is the inclusion of Echiura and Sipuncula within Annelida, the paraphyletic character of Crustacea (ie, unnatural group), the inclusion of insects within Pancrustacea or the controversial position of Xenacoelomorpha. There is a lot of new information in most chapters. The final chapter offers insights into the phylogeny of invertebrates, thanks to Evo Devo and many new techniques (phylogenomics, phylophenomics, ultra-conserved elements) and so on. Unfortunately the author not cover or mention some research that suggest the unnatural status of sponges (Porifera). By other way, the very rich and relatively well studied Paleozoc fauna of arthropods are very shortly covered. A negative point for all potential reader outside USA is the high price.

Invertebrates
As a textbook, Invertebrates is about the best you can get. Not only is it easy to read, but it is extremely well illustrated with color photos and line drawings. I love this book.

Currently the best book on invertebrate zoology
Excellent and thorough. I have been an invertebrate biologist since 1970. This book has brought me up to date. Incidentally, Richard's brother, Gary, was one of my professors in the 1960's.
