Not a typical Chef's Knife
First off, the obvious but a Deba is not like a typical Chef's knife or Santoku despite the superficial resemblance. It's got a one-sided blade and is intended for chopping and boning meat. A lot of experienced cooks probably already know this, but I didn't and it was not what I was looking for.On to the actual fit/finish. The blade seems like it was stamped out of a steel plate. The blade is only hammered/polished on one side (the edge side). The other side is very plain and somewhat coarsely ground steel. Blade was sharp - no word on edge retention. Heavy blade but not full tang.. The handle is oblong for more ergonomic grip in hand. Overall not very impressive looking in person.
