I am working alone so it would be nearly impossible to do the job without something like this. It is easy to use
I am using this panel hoist to install OSB wall and ceiling panels in my shop. I am working alone so it would be nearly impossible to do the job without something like this. It is easy to use, hoists the panels to the 10' ceiling and walls easily. The three-legged support legs occupy a very large footprint (needed for stability) so it would be best to use in a room without a lot of installed workbenches, etc., but that is what I have, so I am stuck trying to maneuver around all the installed stuff I have. When I am done, I'll sell it.

Troy DPH1116 Drywall Hoist with Extension
Item shipped and arrived quickly and as described. As others have indicated, there were no instructions for the extension and it's not immediately intuitive how things go together. I searched various brands of lifts with extensions until I finally found a pdf that had poorly translated pseudo instructions on how to swap out the standard and extended lift sections (sorry, I don't remember where I found it). To install the extension, you have to cut the cable and remove the telescoping lift section and replace it with the "extender." One of the previous reviewers suggested that a splice was included, but instead it is the crimp sleeve that prevents the cable from coming out. Once you have the extension in place, to correctly complete the installation, you need to crimp the crimp sleeve on the end of the cable in the extender which requires a hydraulic crimping tool. This means that the extender and the standard lift sections can't be easily and quickly swapped out if they are properly installed. You might try a wire cable clamp with nuts instead, but I'm not sure if it would fit or how this might affect safety/warranty.The downside to leaving the extension kit installed permanently is that with the extension kit installed the lift stands about 5' tall. This means that you have to lift each sheet that high onto the lift before starting to raise it which can be a little awkward, especially working alone.I used this to install 7/16" OSB on the 12'5" ceiling of an 832 square foot garage mostly by myself. I couldn't have done it without the hoist. Since I was working by myself and not able to install everything in one session, it would have cost me more to rent a hoist locally and that's if I could have found one to reach the high ceilings. I tried to use it to hang a couple of sheets on the wall and wound up dropping sheets because the flimsy brackets don't lock in place and slipped out from under it.All things considered, I would purchase again. I had read other reviews elsewhere and was aware that others have had issues with this or similar lifts installing sheets on the wall. But for installing panels on the ceiling, I'd sure rather use my head to figure out how to install the extension than to attempt to hold up sheets of osb or drywall to screw them in. Been there, done that, have the scars to prove it...

Great Product worked wonders
I purchased this hoist mainly due to the fact it included an extension allowing it to reach a maximum height of 15 ft. Having a vaulted ceiling with 14 ft to the peak this thing worked a miracle and allow me to hang 4x12 sheets by myself. The installation of the extension was not complicated like of the reviews scared me of but be sure to hang your lower ceilings before installing the extension for taller ceilings.

product good, company support bad
received product in a timely manner and as advertised, no tools were required to assemble."but", ordered 6' extension which arrived at the same time main package did. after assembling tool it was time to add extension into the mix. was surprised to find no directions anywhere in the empty packaging, took a good look at mechanism and cable system which appeared to be a little complicated but can be figured out eventually. called company tool was shipped from and person answering phone was aware of no instructions situation, asked if instructions could be found on line somehow and was told no, and to lay extension on flat ground to achieve extension change over. the cable pulley system looks a little complicated for this tool and i would have felt better adding extension after having found instructions somewhere. there was also a cable splice included with packaging which once you see the operating system you'll know immediately this system cannot be spliced as cable splice part would suggest, thus, another reason for instructions. i will use this tool in it's present capacity to install drywall at an 8 to 10 foot level, but have a future 15 foot section where extension will be needed. i fully expect to have to fully disassemble tool in order to achieve this and anticipate purchasing a new length of1/8" steel cable to complete.if i'm wrong anywhere in my analysis of this tool it's because there were no instructions for extension so, sorry to the shipper. now you know, do something about it. so, to be fair. this tool is sturdy enough to do the intended job. it's just there is little or no support from the shipper who is well aware of the lack of instructions for the extension part of this package.

Great product
A lot of people complained about the instructions. I can't respond to that because I have never read them. I put it together in about ten minutes without the instructions. If you are struggling with putting this together then maybe you should hire the project done because that is the easy part. I have never used one of these before but they are awesome. No more back breaking dangerous work and I can hang Sheetrock by myself
