Works great! No power required
I purchased several of these and they work great. No power required, I bought another brand that required power and those did not work. I recommend these.

It does it's job and it does it well
Works great; no unwanted scaling and therefore no lag! I am using a separate audio source however so I cannot testify for the quality of the headphone jack in this, neither for the durability as I only got it recently.Oddly there's no glue holding the housing together, you can just kinda claw it open. Normally this would definitely be a downside or a flaw, but I honestly don't mind this, in fact I like being able to open a product screwdriverless and without damaging it.I can't say too much about picture quality as I don't have much to compare it to, but it seems there was no loss in quality at all. There is no scaling after all, meaning the signal coming in to the monitor is pretty much lossless. It worked great on my CPD-G400 and sent through all the correct resolutions allowing for the full extent of my monitor's resolution and refresh rate support. That is by the way. More than 1080p! The adapter did my monitor's 1800x1440@70Hz perfectly fine. Even odd resolutions, like 1800x480@95Hz worked great.

WORKS WITH ALL MY DEVICES
This works perfect for my portable outdoor projector, and allows for a very clean setup. I have a powered speaker that sits right behind the projector, facing the viewers. This is one of the few adaptor that I can plug directly into my projector, run a very short cable to my speaker, and then have one HDMI cable from my device, or in the case of Chromecast, plug directly in.Most other HDMI to VGA adaptors have a male HDMI connector (which means you need an HDMI coupler for the Chromecast), and female VGA connector (so you need a VGA cable, which I don’t have just sitting around these days). Also, it means I would need to run a longer unbalanced (and potentially noisy), audio cable to my speaker. As soon as I received this adaptor, I immediately tested it with all my devices and projector, which is an Epson PowerLite 1705c (EMP-1705). This worked perfectly well with all of the following:Macbook Pro (DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor)AppleTV 3: Netflix (didn't test w/ iTunes videos)PS3: bluray, Netflix, AmazonChromecastSamsung bluray playerCaveats:- my projector cut off the image when set to 1080p, but fit perfect when set to 1080i, or 720p- if audio is not available or noisy, make sure audio from your device is not set correctlyBonus:- This adaptor does not need any sort of power supply—it just works!

Unusable
Every single device I connected this to it just cut out constantly, didn't matter if the audio was used this just didn't work for me.I have had a much better experience with the StarTech HD2VGAE2, however it still didn't do everything I wanted.

Device works with typical HDMI outputs but not low power devices
The product I am reviewing is the Tendak Active 1080P Female HDMI to VGA Male Converter Adapter Dongle with 3.5mm Stereo Audio.UPDATE:After leaving my original review the manufacturer contacted me and said that they thought the product I received was simply defective and offered to send a replacement. Based on my research and the fact that the device was partially working I had incorrectly assumed that the issue was with the core design (self-powered HDMI to VGA converter typically pushes the limits of what HDMI ports can provide). As it turns out I was wrong and it was actually a defective device. The adapter works with a fairly low power laptop as well as on-board Intel video output (1080p video and stereo sound were tested). Nice clear picture, no noise in the video or audio.Note that it does not work with a Raspberry PI 2 B nor an Odroid-C0, not that I was expecting it to. Small dev boards like these often have very low power output on the HDMI port but I thought it might be useful to know for others with these types of devices. Low power devices will almost certainly require externally powered converters.Minus 1 star for quality control and replacement shipping from China (original was ordered locally, this is also why it took so long to re-review). Ironically the alternative product I ordered when this first one wasn't working is now itself no longer working; hopefully this one will continue to work. I left my original review below so that if others encounter similar issues they will know to seek a replacement rather than tossing the device.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Device permits HDMI attached computers to detect the monitor (including correct model and resolution) but fails to actually display an image. Test with multiple monitors, graphics cards, computers, and cables. All combinations had the same result. HDMI output of all GPUs functions as expected when connected to other HDMI displays. VGA inputs of displays function correctly when connected using VGA output from GPUs.

Totally worth it! I love it!
This adapter is awesome! I bought this about a week ago to connect my Xbox 360 to a monitor I had lying around. It only had two input ports; VGA and DVI (I'm not sure which kind. D, A, or I, so i just went with this VGA converter) I had read about some sort of "mod" that can be done to 360s involving both HDMI and the analog output cables, but didn't want to dive into that. This was way simpler, and I'd say way more reliable. Using this adapter, I just got one of my audio splitters that have volume control and now have a speaker system and my headphones connected simultaneously. I'm especially fond of that fact that by using my pc monitor instead of a TV, I can sit more comfortably at my desk, and see way more in game detail because of the higher resolution and better coloring in the display. I'll post an update in a few weeks time to see how it stands the test of time.
