Variable opening
When it opens it works well, sadly it doesn't always, or can open partially/too late to realise all contents. That said we use it in a front loader automatic machine (as drawer dispenser wasn't working) and it's a definite improvement. Works well on longer faster spin cycles.

Amazing!
After my softener dispenser stopped working, i found this gadget which works perfect in my front loading washing machine. Super simple to use, i would highly recommend if you dont have a softener compartment or have trouble with your washing machine dispensing softener from the drawer.

Okay but........
The washing machine's dispenser tray stopped working, as it's fairly old, I decided it's not worth the repair cost and decided to try using this. Works okay but difficult to determine at what point the fabric softener is released. Suffice to say that I'm using twice the dosage of softener to get the same result as when the machine's dispenser tray was working. I assume this may be due to it being designed for an American top loader, not the usual UK front loader. Addendum: After 17 washes the first plastic chain broke. Perhaps that's why they come in sets of 3.
