Fascinating
I was aware of a few of the pagan origins of the Christ myth before I read this, but I learned a lot. I did expect it to be much longer. It’s really an essay rather than a book. Highly recommend.

Interesting Read
Interesting read, you can finish this book in an hour. In the chapter Pagan Christ, the author states, "In Indian art Krishna is represented as a man of black complexion", hmmm this is incorrect. Krishna is usually depicted as blue. A nickname given to him in ISKON circles around the world is "Blue boy". I'm no expert on classical Indian art but that sentence worries me. It is like common knowledge that he is blue, the same way Christ is always depicted with a beard. A minor gripe I suppose book is well written and well researched.

true or false? it's up to you.
the reason why i gave this read 5 stars is because the essay is based on sound materials / solid references and the writers case is not complicated ( i appreciate simple).this synopsis is simple / clear cut for both: the faithful / non - faithful. it will broaden your horizons with the interesting / compelling parallelism of the ancients...i think that this read will make a devoted christian feel discomfort ( the title is ample). i also feel that this should not limit his / her mind into exploring other avenues...last but not least, i know that if the reader(s) is not a christian / muslim (muslims believe in the christ (not the godhead)) he / she will respect the writers well researched case.sit next to your window with your cup of tea / coffee and kick your feet up.read this uncomplicated booklet, it's worthy.

General Review
On behalf of the retailer, I have no complaints. As far as the content, unless the author has access to a version of the bible predating the King James version, there were some misquotations. Also, one or two references to scripture were not represented in the same context that they are taught in church. Also, if the arguments made here could stand alone, why does the author feel the need to contrast & compare the origins of Christian beliefs with those of cultures who came after Christ? Why not just stick to the more historically accurate accounts of the belief systems that predated Christianity. The bias really starts to seep at points like that. If anything, this book serves to cause anyone seeking the true origins of these belief systems to, go to the sources & dig further & more diligently. Thanks.

great little book, recommend
As a progressive pastor myself I found this little book a jewel of information I had heard about but had little source work for. Please pick it up. You won’t be disappointed.

Very good
All christians, especially catholics, should read this. Concise, clear but very rich teaching about our religious "roots". Very, very good reading, only too short.

Short book gives plenty of food for thought
This short book explains the pagan influence on Christian traditions. I knew that Jesus was probably not born on 25 December but I did not appreciate that this particular date has been celebrated as a feast day for centuries before Jesus lived as it was seen as the start of the sun's movement from its equinox. I have not made the connection either between the celebration of Easter and the Spring equinox or that the Egyptian god Horus was conceived by virgin birth, was crucified and was reborn and that he lived centuries before Jesus and the story of his life was well chronicled. The parallels between Jesus' life and that of the Hindu incarnation Vishnu are also enlightening. There are obvious contradictions in the Gospels about Jesus' life but I had not appreciated they were written 100 to 300 years after his death. Some of the findings of this book come as a startling revelation and I will certainly explore some of the source materials referred to by the author. The premise of this studious extended essay is that Christianity is a synthesis of pre-existing religions. I am sure that many Christian scholars would find it hard to accept these findings but, on the basis of the evidence presented here, it is hard to disagree.

Straight to the point.
No real story telling just facts, which was disappointing. But I liked that it was a quick read. Theologians would appreciate the brevity.

Excellent Read
Interesting read and great explanation about the origins of the modern day Christianity and its similarities to other pagan religions that have been in existence thousands of years before christ.
