Meh
Broke the shovel immediately. This is as good as the low end toy shop metal detectors. Yes it bleeps when it’s over something with some metal in it. Should have bought the crap one for £20 from Smyths.

Careful
The box which contains the detector shouts 'PRO' but that is far from the quality of this device. It is easy to assemble providing you realise, as I didn't, that the control unit needs a firm pull for it to lock into place with the arm of the unit itself, then the screw which goes through the arm to secure the control module lines up and can therefore be inserted. I was unaware that it needed a really firm pull and was cursing that the aformentioned holes didn't line up.Ignoring the above the unit is easy to install; and for once the enclosed instruction manual, regards to assembly, is clear. Not so other aspects of the manual. Heights of the sensor above ground and the sweep speeds, are unclear. The control unit is fairly basic in design but that is probably better for true beginners, such as youngsters, because if they end up with one that I already have they might well get frustrated at all the setting up required before the thing actually is effective. This detector does work, no doubt about that but I would have liked some visual displays, such as leds , to light up as the DIS knob is turned away from its default setting of 'all metals'. DIS means discrimination. Initially the dial is set all the way to the left to the setting just mentioned. If it detects metail a beep is heard and the analogue dial needle swings to the right and back to zero. So, to discover what it is reacting to the DIS knob is rotated slowly clockwise - to 10 0 clock. If scanning the same area as when it beeped the signal continues to buzz it is not iron. If the buzzing stops then it is iron that was detected. If the buzz indication does continue at 10 further turning to 11, 12 indicates which type of so called precious metal is beneath the scanning heard. It uses 2 off 9v batteries, which are easy to instal. The foldable shovel is suitable for initial use; I doubt that it will stand up to much abuse, however.

FOR A MERRY CHRISTMAS ?
You can pay over £5.000 for a metal detector on Amazon, so it would perhaps be unwise to expect too much from this model costing little more than one percent of that...But that said, it seems to work very well ! And if you, or perhaps your children, wanted to dip your toes into this activity, I doubt if you would be disappointed with it.This model appears to be the same as the already much-reviewed "Classic" model from the same manufacturer, here renamed the "Three-in-one" and supplied with a nice pair of volume-controlled headphones, which were lacking with the Classic. However, you still have to buy your own 9v batteries, so be sure to order a pair at the same timeDuring my very long life, I have had absolutely no experience of metal detectors or detecting, but I did once think it would be nice to go over my very large garden with one - it has had people - albeit only poor smallholders - living and working in it for at least 200 years - so who knows ? Of course, this also means that there are probably millions of bits of rusty ironwork, washers, nuts, bolts, screws and suchlike, and sure enough, the first few passes with the thing after stepping off the paved patio onto grass, produced a constant flow of beeps. Trouble was, after detecting something, I could not easily pinpoint it again. I presume this means they were tiny items, or maybe my technique is at fault. Some reviewers of the "Classic" version have complained about the flimsy qualty of the supplied, collapsible spade. I tried it on concrete-like soil under an ancient yew tree, and did not find it flimsy; but it does need the two connections to be tightened sufficiently. The English manual containe a few errors (it describes "nails" and "iron trash" as "invaluable" !) but is surprisingly good for a Chinese product and assembly was easy,Living as I do on top of a 700ft windy ridge, it is not currently the weather for wandering very slowly about my garden, and it might have been better to have launched this product in the late spring; but I suppose they have the Christmas market in mind, and I have to say that it would make a fine present. It comes, disassembled, in a box which would possibly fit in one of those extravegantly large Christmas stockings, better described as sacks.Worth mentioning is that it has a feature known as "automatic ground balance", which means that it removes what you might call "noise", emitted by soils containing mineral elements, and enabling you hear target signals clearly. So if you've just fed your lawns with fe2 to kill the moss, it might be advisable to wait a bit before scanning them...

Great present for the kids - worked well and they loved it!
At a bargain price i thought this would be a great and interesting gift for the kids to get them outdoors and off mobile devices!!They loved it - really easy to set up and the instructions are really easy to read and understand as well! We have had it for 4 weeks now and although we havent found any roman coins - we have had a huge amount of fun as a family !great fun and the kids loved it

Great First Device.
We as a family have never used anything like this before, so I was unsure what to expect. Assembly was fairly straightforward, although took longer than it should as my son was hovering over me repeating "can I use it now" every five seconds. As we are in lockdown we have only tried this in the garden and it has worked fine. We didn't find any treasure or something but found a few little bits and bobs. I'm sure if you wanted to take this up as a serious hobby then you would need to spend a serious amount of money on a "proper" detector, but it is ideal as a "dip your toe in the water" kind of first device.
