If you grow your own or buy them, this little gem is ideal for breaking them down at the last minute to capture a truly fresh result. There is nothing better. Besides being beautiful, it is sturdy and promises perfect function at your behest. Also impressive to others that may be in the kitchen. If you love ultra freshness in your chow, use a pestle to create the fine seasoning that great cooks demand. Also good for buying "bottled" spices that are not already ground. They are marked on the bottle and at home, produce the same heaven as those right out of the garden. This little item will give you a bit of flair and confidence.

I love it! It doesn't use a lot of space in my kitchen and it's easy to wash. I use it to make tea every morning and evening and it makes it a lot easier than crushing the ingredients with a knife and cutting board.

I purchased this mortar and pestle for grinding herbs and spices to fine powder and it does a fantastic job while looking beautiful in my kitchen. The base is solid and heavy so it doesn't move around as I'm using it, the outside is polished and smooth while the inside has a slightly rough unpolished texture to grind against. Both sides of the pestle have a usable unpolished surface also, but are still smooth enough that they're comfortable to hold. The extras included in the box are very useful - a small spoon to scoop out powdered ingredients, a brush to clean out the bowl, and a silicone mat to set the mortar on so that it will not slip on a smooth surface, as well as a bookmark with a sweet note from the seller.I've found that most dried herbs and spices release a much better flavor when they're freshly ground, so this purchase has really improved my cooking and I'm very happy with it!

This product was heavy and of great quality! Exactly what we expected to get and easy to use!

A beautiful marble. A convenient size . Please compare to the small coffee mug. Very smooth on the outside, rough on the inside, but rinsed clean! I wish the pestle were a bit longer for more leverage. Both are of heavy material, but the item is smallish- so not too heavy for aching joints! Grinds coriander seeds and fenugreek seeds, sesame seeds well. Very charming to look at, so you can store it as a display item. I would say this is quite high quality. It is certainly much, much nicer than the mortar and pestle sets at our local International markets. Overall, I am quite pleased. but will be on the lookout for a longer pestle.

This little mortar and pestle has great texture inside, making it very simple to grind spices quickly. It is very easy to clean, and so attractive it has earned a place in my kitchen window where it is easy to access and always on view. This would make a wonderful gift.

We needed to purchase a new mortar and pestle set after our rather old original white marble pestle dropped on the floor and cracked in half (not this company's small version). After plenty of research, we selected the large black mortar and pestle set. It has turned out to be better than expected. Our original mortar had a smaller 4" wide bowl. This new one is wider, very heavy and sturdy and grinds more effectively than our last set due to the matched shape of the pestle to the mortar. We also appreciate the two different sized pestle ends on this new set which not only allows us to adjust grinding depending on our need, but will also allow us to continue to use our smaller mortar with the new pestle when desired.Even the included accessories, while unnecessary, turned out to be more useful than expected. The silicon pad replaces various envelopes and pieces of paper we used to avoid scratching our countertop, and it has the added benefit of holding the mortar steady while grinding. The brush, while seemingly silly and, frankly, cheap, is nice to brush out fine grounds.My only critique would be that because the base of the mortar has no foot, the mortar can be hard to hold when tipping herbs into a pot or bowl. However, this does not diminish the product's usefulness, and it is quite a pretty .Finally, I have to give the company credit for the enclosed "thank you" and the complimentary bookmarks. While this, in no way, affects the mortar and pestle, it was an appreciated touch. They seem to take pride in their products.Having used this set regularly for a few weeks, we can definitely recommend it.

The media could not be loaded.  Definitely is marble! Heavy, which is great, inside is rough so you can grind into a nice powder form, but can also not crush too long if you like course. The rubber matt is thick and really holds it in place while using. Highly recommended
