Great product with one minor issue
First I should say that the product and its construction seem to be top notch. The hook itself gets 5 stars. The problem we had was that the bolt was too short to secure the wingnut. Most of our ladders are the 300lb rated extra heavy duty. They have a slightly larger rung than the 225/250lb. We had to put everything on hold while someone ran to the hardware store and got a longer bolt and new wingnuts. Only cost $4, but thats not the point. Simply adding a bolt with an extra 1/2" would make sure that every person who buys this product can use it without modification. Also, these things are heavy! Two of these on the end of one section of a 32' ladder was a bear. Be careful when running it up to the ridge, if you get a little to the left or right it will take off down the roof. Good luck stopping it, roll it over quick. Overall a great product. Just wish the manufacturer would include quality hardware and save people the headache.

SAVE $50 ON PAIR! Works as described! Great product!
Great product, be sure to buy a pair as you need TWO PER LADDER. Works with a shingle over style ridge vent with no problem. I used them with a werner 24 foot ladder broken down into two sections. I highly recommend...PRO TIP: change the quantity in your cart to 2 and you will save about 50 bucks for whatever reason. If you choose the pair option in the box the cost is around $90 bucks. Choose the one only option for $22 bucks, then change quantity in cart to 2 and get a pair for around $45 bucks instead of $90. Not really sure why they have it setup that way....

Don't buy if you have expensive shingles!
My 12/12 pitch roof is covered with Certainteed Grand Manor Shingles and topped with a large 12 inch wide vented ridge cap. This ladder hook is way too small to extend over the ridge cap. The ladder hook actually dug deep into the middle of the ridge cap damaging it which will cost me hundreds of dollars to repair. This hook needs to be 12 inches longer and the hook end needs to extend about 6 inches further to reach past the ridge cap. If you have inexpensive shingles and a small 6 inch ridge cap, then this hook may work for you.

A very safe way to climb a steep roof
I needed to trim some tree limbs off of the roof of my home. The roof pitch is about 5:12 and metal, which makes it too steep and slick to work on safely without a harness. I purchased a set of these, attached them to a ladder and walked up the roof like it was nearly flat. The rollers make it very easy to roll up the roof, and then flip over with the hooks down. The ladder felt totally safe and secure. Before buying the ladder hooks, I did some research. Some recommendations say that the swivel rollers are unsafe. I can see how that would be true on some roofs, but with the ribs on my metal roof, there is no tendancy for the ladder to roll to one side while rolling it up the roof. Might be an issue on a composition roof, so you might want to look for a set with fixed rollers, or just swap out the rollers on this set of hooks.

Worked as needed for me
I bought one of these to safely get to the top of my roof to do some maintenance and work up there. I carefully read the reviews on here to see what I was getting and in for and purchased one of these and couldn't be happier. The first thing I noticed when I received this was how heavy and strong it is. There is no maximum weight limit listed on the amazon site but it would take a tremendous amount of weight to bend these. Couple that with the fact that you're on a roof and not all of the load is being distributed vertically and I can't see anyone having any issues with support. When I got around to using this I attached it to my ladder and was a little skeptical at first since the only thing to secure it to the ladder as you're pushing it up, is a wing nut and piece of metal, however you should note, this just keeps the hook on the ladder as you're pushing it up into place. As the ladder slides down, the bottom hook takes on the load. I mentioned that this thing was heavy, and I was by myself trying to push one ladder with the hook on it up the roof while standing on another ladder which can be tricky depending on how much room you have to operate. Once up to the top I flipped the ladder over and secured it in place. Once on the ladder I had no reservations that the hook would hold my entire weight and felt confident up there on the roof, even with only one of these hooks holding the ladder in place on a 12/12 roof. My only suggestion would be on a hot day to make sure to wrap the hook with a rag or tape it up a little. It can dig into the shingles and damage them a little bit when you're getting your ladder in place. All in all though I wouldn't hesitate recommending this item to anyone I know.

Secure hooks with evil wheels
I am rating the Qualcraft Ladder Hook 4 stars and not 5 because of its excessive weight and I hate the small swiveling wheel. Other than those negatives I felt quite secure using a pair of the ladder hooks on half of an aluminum extension ladder to sit myself on a 45-degree roof. The weight of a non-aluminum ladder would not make for safe handling since you already have to be on another ladder or a scaffold just to reach the roof. I found undoing the hooked ladder from the roof ridge a bigger challenge than putting it up as the damn wheels had a tendency for wild swings to the left or right as I rolled the ladder downward. I tried to think of ways to lock the wheels' orientation but was not successful. I must say the hooks mount quickly and easily on my ladder. I would recommend ladder hooks made of a lighter material than steel with larger wheels aligned with the ladder's long dimension. Once you get it hooked in place I feel this ladder hook is a safe product to climb on.

does not fit standard ladder
as received it does not fasten securely to a standard aluminum ladder. usa rungs are too big around for this to fit right. i tried it on several brands that i have. maybe it fits some ladders in china. i did some welding and fabricating and made it work ok. some hardware was missing, an odd-ball metric thread. i used an inch bolt and nut instead. it is ok after modification, i would not use it as received. i ordered 2, same day and only got one so far. i cut a piece of steel to weld to the second one while i was at it. the listing did not mention that 2 are recomended per ladder. some listings of do this, some do not. i do not recomend this item.

Great hook - works and great price
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. watch the video for the full commentary and me using it. great hook, plenty strong enough. i got only one, you don't need two, the metal is thick. very very strong unless you're 300 pounds or something. i'm 150, if you bounce it will flex but i had great confidence in it. The more expensive one is reinforced, stronger for larger individuals and has a larger hook which would be nice since this one doesn't go super far over the other side of the ridge but it goes far enough for me to feel safe with it. Check out the video for more. for what i use it for, no need to spend $130 on the super duper one, this one works for the mr fixit around the house!

Finally used it last week to do tree trimming above the roof
The single unit worked fine for me on my one story roof, but I did have to remove the swivel caster wheel which was a nuisance and dangerous trying to push the ladder up in a straight line. I actually found an old discarded shopping cart and took off the wheel assembly and clamped it to the top rung of the ladder. The 6 inch wheels and solid axle made it much easier to roll up and down the roof. The only problem I had with this unit is that it is designed for D shape rungs, which work well with my standard ladder with 12 rungs, but for one section of my roof the ladder was way too long with the roof valley and it would have been better to use my shorter Little Giant mid section 8 rung, but the rung shape was different and would not fit.But in general it worked as expected after the removal of the swivel caster.

works well
used on a 10/12 roof....(with a personal harness). Product works well (manufacturer says to use in pairs and we did) and felt very secure and safe on this steep roof. We could not find a ladder hook anywhere in NS so we order these from Amazon. sturdy and well made except should have a rubber pad on the foot of the hook so as not to damage roofing. We are going to add piece off an old tire with rivets. It would also help if the foot swiveled so as to adapt to different roof angles. The old ones that we had borrowed years ago had these features.

Definitely need two of these to keep them steady on raising to the peak.
I should have followed the reviews more closely on this. It's good and solid but not the easiest to slide up to the roof ridge because of the rotating wheel. They should secure the wheel so that it is single direction only and will avoid the ladder from slipping to the side. Also found that the hook was inadequate to give me a real sense of security. It didn't go far enough over the ridge and didn't allow for adjustment to sit flat against the opposite side of the roof.Could be so much better. I returned it because I was not comfortable using it. Unfortunate.

Does the job and is safe in my opinion
I have a 45 degree slope on my shed roof and found two of these worked great and enabled me to shingle the roof safely using the extension section of an extending ladder. (I am 72 years old by the way!) To be safe I locked up the swivel wheels in a fixed position so the ladder could not slide off to the side and hit somebody. (I washed the oil off the ball race with gasoline, dried it and then fixed the wheel in position using epoxy smeared in the ball race etc.) The bolts holding the rests need to be tightened to keep them at 90 degrees. You may need to put small strips of say 1/4 ply under the ladder to space it from the roof so you can slip shingles underneath.
