My actual experience with this device was right on par with the advertising materials and reviews. Except that nobody happened to mention how difficult and time consuming it is to clean it out after each use.That glass window sure is nice while it's clean and pristine, but after you're done you need to spend 2 - 3 hours cleaning it out with water and detergents. The smoke residue is everywhere (proving, I guess, that the smoker is indeed effective), but that wonderful window will be a waste of money otherwise, so if you gotta have it, be prepared to spend as much time cleaning (or more) as you do smoking.Generally, the device does a very good job at smoking food. As others have mentioned, the controls are a little wonky, but once you know how to deal with them that facet become a non-issue. The shelf layout and spacing are good. I'm not sold that the size of the chip-box is adequate; I've filled it to capacity and had the entire contents reduced to charcoal well before being even half-way through the cook, so I'd say that 90 minutes is about the max you can expect before you'll have to refill.Even with open vents at the top of the machine it releases very little smoke, and I find this device works very well in a semi-enclosed environment.I've had great success with everything I've put in this smoker EXCEPT for chicken. No matter what I try, chicken always comes out wrapped in a sheet of rubberized skin. I know some folks have figured out how to achieve a crispy and delicious skin, but it'd be nice if the instruction manual addressed this.

This fit like a glove and didn't even try to blow off during high winds. A mouse ate a couple of holes in it after a couple of weeks which was a bummer. Nothing against the product though.

I’m new to smoking so this is my first smoker. Very stable and a good value. I looked and studied these appliances for months and am pleased with the entire structure. I would encourage getting a cover to protect your investment. Temperature dial and plug could be a tighter fit but that’s really a none issue. Easy to clean and gives me another option to making meals.

Most important- the first use- for pastrami- was outstanding.Once I was able to use- the temp probe worked perfectly to turn smoker off when meat reached temp. LOVE this feature.Of concern- do not wait until you plan to use try it out. This is first time I've had to allow a couple hours for seasoning... after having to go to hardware store in other city for part to assemble stand.You may need to find properly rated cord of appropriate length to set up at safe distance.If you choose stand- directions may have tool listed in wrong size.Being able to see inside the smoker to monitor progress is really cool- but I found however the internal light is aimed inside the unit- a flashlight was more useful.These are minor inconvenienced which by end of summer, will likely mean nothing compared to the taste of food cooked with real hardwood.

If you look at my other reviews you will see that I have not had a very good experience with Char-Broil and its products. This cover is the one exception. It is very sturdy and has held up very well. It also has done a pretty good job of keeping the rain and snow off of my smoker. This is the one good product that I purchased from them.

This thing performed like a champ from day 1. I've smoked pork and beef ribs, chicken, fish, etc. and all have turned out great. As a number of commenters have stated, a full rack of ribs does not fit on the shelf, I cut my rack of ribs in half and still get great results. A little bit worrisome, is there appears to be a small spot of rust forming on the top, we live in a fairly humid area in OK. I plan on sanding that down and hitting it with some primer and high temp paint and hope for the best. A smoker cover has also been purchased even though this is in a covered location on our back porch. Also, wood chips seem to work best on this, the wood pellets never seem to get hot enough to really start smoking sufficiently. If interested, since I had both pellets and chips, I was able to get decent smoke with pellets by layering the bottom half of the smoker box with chips and then added a top layer of pellets of the same wood. With this method the pellets did seem to get hot enough being in contact with the chips.
