Vast improvement over the bricks supplied with our fireplace insert!
Really impressed with this product, these clay firebricks have definitely improved the overall performance of our wood stove (fireplace) insert.Going on our third season with this wood stove, the porous concrete-like firebricks that were originally supplied with the unit were already in need of replacement, with one brick broken, another deeply cracked. After ordering one box and determining the Rutland bricks appeared to be much better quality, opted to replace ALL 13 firebricks. Involved some work in cutting down to size, as the existing ones were four different dimensions, (used a Dewalt angle grinder with DEWALT DW4725 masonry blade).... dusty and loud task, but worth the effort. After just a couple successive fires, we've noticed these bricks insulate much better than the old ones, and balance the fire's heat output as well, requiring less tending during a burn. The outer stove body does not get quite as hot, which should lengthen its lifespan; much larger amount of hot embers in the morning means easier restarting, less kindling and time needed to get a hot blaze going again. The fan on the stove also turns on a bit later, (I modified the manual knob with a thermo-activated one when we installed the stove) which also means the stove body doesn't heat up so quickly; more even heat distribution and a hotter blaze translates into squeezing more therms out of each stick of wood and less charred waste.HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone needing it for relining a wood stove or fireplace.

Hit or Miss
I had to replace about four or five bricks in my woodstove that had cracked after many winter's fires. I found these firebricks to match the ones in my stove perfectly and were easy to cut down to four inches with a hack saw blade (no handle) for the two bricks in my stove that are that width plus the one narrow brick in the ceiling that's about two inches. This wears the blade down to a nub so get a couple extras but it works very well and quickly. However, one of the bricks I installed quickly developed a crack down the middle. Cause uncertain. A log too long? Brittle brick? I would buy these bricks again.

Turns an Old Grill into a Pizza Oven
We like to make pizza at least once a week, but it’s hard to run a kitchen oven in Arizona when temps are often high 90s through 100s about 6 months of the year. We had an old grill that still worked, just too small for the way we cook outdoors, but the perfect size for turning into a pizza oven. We bought two packages of bricks to cover the grill surface, cutting to size as needed, and we can now make pizza outside any time of year without heating up the kitchen. The bricks seem pretty substantial and were easy to cut with a tile saw, and nothing has broken or cracked under high heat either. We are happy with the performance.

Great product -- solved the problem
Wow, what a difference replacing some of the firebricks in our probably 20+ year old Napolean wood stove these made. perfect fit. I thought there was only one broken. I found a second broken and two more cracked and ready to drop. So don't fret about having to buy a pkg of six. You will use them! NOTE: Your stove will heat more quickly, get hotter, and hold the heat longer ... but if you, like I, had more holes in the firebrick than you knew (on the roof of the chamber), when you replace them with the new bricks, the firebox will not draft as well at first. It makes sense if you think about it. So get a good fire going on top and start the draft, let it vent well for the first 5-10 minutes, or you will be smoking up your house a bit. It's not a problem, if you are aware. UPDATE: Two years later, just used the 6th and final brick. None of the ones I installed two years ago have broken. Ordering another box now. I believe this Napolean stover (fireplace insert with glass door) is 20-30 years old, so not surprised the old ones are giving out.
