Happy to have read this
This book is very informative. I found it particularly true with regards to ornamentation. Badura-Skoda is on somewhat of a kick in this volume to revive the Pralltriller or inverted mordent in Bach interpretation. He also gives a lot of evidence against beginning every trill on the upper auxiliary. He also makes a strong case for getting editions of Bach that show all the variant ornamentation that has survived in manuscripts -- for some of those marks were surely original or expressed the composer's intentions at some point. His comments on rhythm, articulation, and the like are also very useful. As an author, though, he is a cantankerous and uneven companion. Sometimes he's brilliant or witty or insightful. Sometimes though he can be very repetitive. In particular, the over-sized Pralltriller polemic could have used more editing.Nonetheless, I'm very glad I read it, and, if you play Bach at the keyboard, there's much to learn.
