All the different kind of smokers
Jeff explains the different smokers and gadgets that you probably didn't even know existed! It's very well done and explained. The illustrations are great as well. It's mainly instruction and guidance about smoking. Thank you, Jeff, for such a wonderful book!

Great photos, middling content
Doesn't seem like it provides a lot of real content for the money...but the pics are very good.

Are you a smoker?
I have had an electric water smoker for years. As I age bending over is becoming a problem. This stand is great as it raises the smoker higher.

Read this before you start smoking meat!
Jeff Phillips' Smoking Meat is my go-to cookbook when I'm planning on, well, smoking meat. This new book isn't a cookbook. Despite the word "advanced" in the title, it's a concise, straightforward introduction to the art and science of smoking. This is the book I wish I had read before I first started smoking meat. It clearly talks about the different types of smokers, equipment, wood, and fuel, and techniques to achieve the best results. Most other smoking cookbooks have some of this information in their introductory pages or in between recipes, but this goes into more depth and detail. It's not a cookbook (although it does have a recipe for bacon at the end); it's a handbook for smokers, and I found it extremely helpful.

Great book...for beginners
First, let me say that I love Jeff's original book: Smoking Meat. I've used many of his recipes to smoke various types of meats. I also paid for his recipes for his Original Rub, Texas Style Rub and his BBQ sauce. His Original Rub is my favorite rub of all the author's rubs that I've tried. It's my go-to rub. I also subscribe to Jeff's smoking-meat.com web site. That has great info and great recipes. Now to this book. As stated by others, this is not a recipe book. And I understood that when I ordered it. But with the exception of some good tips for the different types of protein (10 pages total, at various points in the book), the book contains information that is basic at best. To call this an "Advanced Guide to Smoking Meat" is simply not true.If you've been smoking for any length of time, you'll know 99% of what's in the book. By contrast, if you're a beginner, you may pick up on some good information.All-in-all, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone other than a smoking novice.
