App is junk
Love the scale itself but I am not sure how to rate it free of the app necessary for it use. The app is one of the worst I have ever used and my wife is about ready to toss the whole thing out due to connection issues. In my case the app sometimes will not show all the data, just weight. I have to shut down the app and restart to get it to show all the data. My wife's phone says it is connected to the scale but says there is no data available despite just weighing herself and the scale indicating she is the user being weighed. Not sure what to do about that one yet but we are still in the beginning phase trying to make it all work. There is simply too much data to just use it free of the app and if all one wants is weight there are much cheaper scales that are just as good. Our old scale used wifi and our app connected to the internet to get data. Really wish this scale did that so we did not have to try to sink directly with the scale and deal with these connection nightmares. The Apple App store has a 2 out of 5 rating on the app. I think that high.Note: For the last year or so I have been trying to get the app to connect to my phone every once in a while. Despite following advice of Tanita I have only used the on-scale metrics. The app won't connect. Absolute waste of money, the app is simply puzzling in its current form although I must admit I can't really use it but I am not even sure how I would update the scale readings. It certainly does not present an easy way to transfer scale readings to the phone. I certainly will never get a Tanita scale again. So far the scale seems accurate from one use to another. As far as its accuracy I am not entirely sure but honestly don't care for the most part. My weight shows pretty close to my previous scale. I am more interested in trends. If my actual weight or body fat is a few points off I don't care for the most part as long as I can count on the trends. That said, this scale has users put in where they live so the scale can compensate for different gravities in different places on earth.I do like the athletic mode to the scale. I am pretty muscular and work out a lot. Caliper tests show me to be about 8% less body fat than most impedance scales. This one is pretty close to calipers. My guess is the greater accuracy is not just due to the athletic mode. The hand unit adds to the accuracy. The way impedance works just using hands or feet will not likely lead to very accurate results and show trends that only apply to part of the body. For me the data is too rich. I really don't care much, nor understand, all the data presented on different parts of the body. Not sure I care that my right arm is measured to be 1% body fat and are "under". Have not even figured out what that means yet. My guess is it means I should have more fat on my arms. Wish I could transfer some visceral fat. Not sure how impedance tells of muscle quality. Guessing it does not really. I'm happy my metabolic age is 30 years younger than I am but again Im pretty sure impedance can tell us little about metabolic age. There are some good lab tests for that. Of course it is easy to just ignore the data that is not useful to you.All in all I recommend the scale. Perhaps in time we will get it all figured out and the app won't be such a nightmare. If my research is correct the competition is not very good at this price point and with these features. Pricey but if the features are important to you there does not seem to be much competition.

NO HAY APP AUTORIZADA PARA MI REGIÓN
La balanza se mira muy bien, pero la app que se tiene que bajar para llevar el control y los resultados no tiene autorización para descargarla en Guatemala, me parece muy mal por parte de Tanita.

Two thumbs up, 5 star product!
I know this scale is expensive, but truly worth the price tag if you would like full and accurate insight of your body composition. My wife and I feel it’s worth the money and we’re both enjoying every feature of the scale and app. I don’t write reviews often, but felt it was necessary because the only review for this product is a one star review, which almost deterred me from making the purchase. I’m glad I did more research and selected the Tanita RD-545pro. We had the Qardio Base prior to purchasing this one which was very inconsistent and a frustrating scale. It doesn’t even come close to competing with the Tanita scale.

Easily the most disappointing tech I have ever owned
Dare to compare" is Tanita’s marketing claim, so I did—and the results are far from impressive. On paper, the specs are solid, with advanced features like muscle quality scoring and segmental body composition analysis. However, that's where the praise stops. The build quality is cheap plastic, and it looks and feels uninspired for a premium product. Unlike every other consumer scale I’ve encountered, this one lacks a proper LCD display on the scale itself to show basic metrics like weight. Instead, there’s an antiquated, tiny LCD screen on the handheld grip. The grip connects to the scale with a flimsy cable that feels like it will either break or get stuck in no time. The scale is painfully unintuitive to use. Stepping on it doesn’t automatically begin a measurement like you’d expect. Instead, you need to hit the power button on the grip and then lift it to start—a redundant and clunky process. The scale also doesn’t auto-detect the grip position, further emphasizing how dated the technology feels.Setup was an even bigger nightmare. You first download the app, register on the my.tanita website, update your profile, and then attempt measurements. Even after jumping through these hoops, measurements often fail, time out, or get stuck. Worse yet, there are no clear prompts or guidance on what went wrong or how to fix it.While the LCD on the grip is outdated, the app is truly the worst part. It feels antiquated, clunky, and entirely unpolished. For a scale at this price point, this level of app integration is unacceptable. If you’re buying this solely for its unique measurement claims, it might suffice, but as an overall product, it’s an absolute disaster.I regret the time I wasted trying to make this work. The user experience is abysmal, and the presentation doesn’t live up to even basic expectations. This scale is a huge letdown.
