Roku Express+ HD Streaming Media Player with Voice Remote (Renewed)

I did a lot of research before choosing Roku versus the main competitor’s product —there are a lot of trade-offs, but the deciding factor for me is that screen of the competitor’s product is very “busy” with advertisements all over the place and you have to pay extra to get rid of those. The Roku is easier for my husband to use—after a recent stroke, he is both visually and cognitively impaired making navigating the TV screens quite the challenge for him. ROKU’ s simplicity and voice recognition work perfectly for him. BUT THEN, we decided that we needed consistency across all TV’s so we had to buy several more Rokus. That’s why I chose the “renewed” product—to save money. I can make a fair comparison between this renewed Roku versus the new ones because I have a couple of each. There are THREE differences (1) this renewed model comes in a plain brown box, but includes all the instructions needed. (2) the buttons on the remote that are pre-labeled for certain apps are different. The “new” remote has a pre-labeled button for Apply TV, while the “renewed” remote has a pre-labeled button for SlingTV. The other 3 pre-labeled app buttons are identical between the two Roku remotes. (3) the renewed Roku has a sticker on it that says “renewed” (I removed that.)The renewed Roku works perfectly—exactly like the new ones. The voice recognition works perfectly. It’s also VERY convenient that the Roku remote automatically syncs up with your TV’s remote so that you can control the power and volume of the TV with only the Roku remote. That simplicity of operation is very important to us. I am also very new to the whole TV thing—it was always my husband’s thing. But now, I am the one who has to program the TV and set up these types of purchases. I am very happy that Roku has made this easy for me and and happy to save $20 (on each renewed Roku) versus the price of a new one.I write honest reviews to help others make informed purchases because I read reviews myself and appreciate how helpful they can be. Roku has done a fantastic job of creating a simple setup process for these devices. The remote then both powers on the roku unit as well as your TV. The only function you will need for the future is the ability to change input (port) selection.This was mostly plug and play other than having the device sync with the TV and connect to the internet. Connected fairly quick and the signal has had 0 issues (posting this review about 2 months after purchasing).The only downside was the adhesive was somewhat weak and didn't stay stuck on the TV. I combated this with some stronger 3M Adhesive pads.

It came exactly like the other Roku I bought for my tv. It was a great buy but sometimes the remote buttons don’t work. We would have to press it a couple of times for it to comply. Other than that, I would definitely purchase again.

It made my non-smart tv into a Roku TV! I wanted this exact model (express+) because it has TV power and volume controls. Don't need an extra remote for that this way. I expected the remote to be infrared in order to do this, but was surprised that it is not. It is RF and works when pointed in any direction; even another room. The TV is controlled via HDMI-CEC. This requires a "fairly" modern TV. Mine is 8 years old and has it. If it doesn't have the CEC capability then you would need the tv remote for power and volume. This was a refurbished product and it works and looks like new. I'm very pleased with it.

The device itself is nice, I like that for a low price point, it has the TV power and volume built into the remote. This also means that the remote is RF and doesn't need to be in line of sight of the TV if the TV properly supports CEC. This is nice because it allows you to stick the device on the back of your TV and never see it again. The Express+ seems to be just as fast as the 3 Streaming Stick+'s that we have as our main TV devices throughout our house. It gets good WiFi reception even through multiple walls and furniture, granted our whole house has strong WiFi.The "refurbishing" process for these devices seems to be that Amazon (or another 3rd party) takes returned devices, tests them, puts a sticker on them, and puts them in a cardboard box with new batteries and cables. The first one we got was defective as the voice button on the remote was stuck down, which rendered the remote inoperable because it was always sending the voice search signal. The second device we received worked properly.

I can't believe how quickly this came in the mail and it was 100 percent perfect. Easy to install and so simple to use. Got it to update an outside tv on my back porch. Bacically, plug and go. I'd definitely buy again if needed.

I have had my old Roku for about 4 or 5 years. Over the years, it became less dependable, and some apps would not install. Not aproblem with this upgrade.The built in mic, makes finding stuff faster. And as an added bonus, the controller now features TV volume control, and a real power button. (Old version was app driven with no volume control) If you can live with gaming, this cheap alternative beats android TV in streaming Television.. Just needs WAY better gaming.

I haven't tried anything other than Roku Ultras and I probably wont. The integration and availability of apps is outstanding. The RF remote with TV power and volume control is great but eats batteries. Because of the RF remote, you can mount the unit to the back of the TV or out of site so it's completely hidden.Highly recommended if you plan to ditch cable/sat TV.

Equipo compacto, fácil de instalar, muy bueno para convertir tv en Smart tv.

Funciona bien lo único que no me gusta es que aveces no agarra la función de hablar.
