The ARRL Operating Manual For Radio Amateurs
S**.
Not a licensed beginners book. Assumes some knowledge besides Technicial License Manual.
I'm in chapter 1, "All About Operating". It is 35 pages but about one-quarter of it are pictures and tables. This chapter assumes you know more than the background material to the Technician question pool, which is my knowledge level. Also, in the CW section, commonly used phrases such as DE, K and SK are not explained in its large chart of CW shortcuts. DE and SK aren't explained in the text, while DE is omitted in the Prosigns appendix. Similarly, use and description of keyers are missing in this chapter, with no listing in the index. Operation and types of keyer (straight key, paddle, digital etc.) need their own section in this chapter. It's a minor issue as DE and keyers were defined briefly in the Technician license manual, but an Operating Manual should include them when going over CW basics, and CW is basic to operating . This chapter would be better titled "What Hams Do" ?

Awesome Book and seller
Haven't read a while lot of it yet but I can already tell there's a wealth of info. Book also came in perfect condition and double packed so A+ for that.

Recommended general manual for the new radio hobbiest.
This go-to manual is a foundational book for anyone getting into the hobby of amateur radio. If anything this book lays out, in simple tables, band/frequency plans, calling frequencies, etc. This book will offer a quick reference for a lot of the gouge you might otherwise find on the internet at your desk. I recommend this book just for the purpose of having it handy as a quick info source when you have forgotten a practice, rule, or piece of advice.

I say get it, too interesting to pass up.
Anything the ARRL puts out is worth buying. Their consideration to both the new and experienced Ham as well as thoughtful layout and excellent published books are a highlight of any Amateur Radio Hobbyists book shelf. The Operating manual to my delight is not as thick and heavy as some of the other monster publications put out by ARRL. In fact, I got the paper-back version here, and find myself picking it up often enough to learn something new each time. It's also not boring for those of us that are not electrical engineers or electronics buffs. It's practical, and useful for the average Ham Hobbyist.

Bible of ham radio operating procedures
This is the 10th edition of the bible of operating techniques and procedures for amateur radio. If you are a ham or plan to become one this is one of the books that you should have in your library. The ARRL had a well deserved reputation of publishing quality publications for the radio amateur. I have been a ham for fifty years and still found useful information in the book.

Good book but very technical.
This is an excellent publication and it is less expensive than at the ARRL store. However, be aware that this book is not for someone new to amateur radio or someone returning from a long absence (me). It is very, very technical. If you are looking for a book that explains in detail how to build simple ham radio antennas for the novice, this isn't it.

Basic information.
It's fine for an introduction to the amateur radio service, but it's definitely oriented towards the novice. Provides a basic overview of what one can do in amateur radio, with an emphasis on volunteer emergency communications service

A hard to obtain ham radio book
A very hard to obtain book on Ham Radio, being of American origin most of the contents will be applicable to the UK. I wish this book could be in colour, and printed on better quality paper. After purchasing various editions over many years,i will be lost without a copy on my bookshelf.Howard
