Friends With Kids is a daring and poignant ensemble comedy about a close-knit circle of friends at that moment in life when children arrive and everything changes. The last two singles in the group observe the effect that kids have had on their friends' relationships and wonder if there's a better way. They decide to have a kid together - and date other people. There are big laughs and unexpected emotional truths as this unconventional 'experiment' leads everyone in the group to question the nature of friendship, family and, finally, true love.

This Movie Hates Women
Every. Single. Character. in this movie loathes women, even themselves and the men who are supposed to be good guys.It is full of nagging, weepy female stereotypes while the "nice guys" treat their significant others like garbage, and say things like "wow, do you always talk this much?" on a first date. And even without all that, it's predictable, unrewarding, and toxic. And then it just ends abruptly, with a trashy, unromantic, almost forceful declaration. It's so tremendously sad to know this was written and directed by a woman. We deserve better. This should have been so much better.

#MeToo, Ageism, and Gentrification All in One Movie
I agree with much of the one-star reviews of this movie. The misogyny starts immediately so you won't have any doubts about walking out on this movie. The lead character, who is also the real-life writer, director, and producer, proudly says aloud in a crowded restaurant that she gave five bj's to her boss and some random man in the restaurant to be allowed to make a reservation there for her group of six that night. Moreover, the man, to whom she said that, was impressed with how low the number five was. The misogyny is more of the same after that, right through the very last scene, when she is pressured into having sex, which the audience is stupidly supposed to accept as a romantic moment.Women over the age of 35 are repeatedly described as too old to be beautiful or appealing to men. Women over the age of 50, at least look their age. They are afforded that dignity. However, the price for that dignity is that they're to remain quiet when their husbands and sons lust after a young woman, and invisible until their daughter finds them useful as the babysitter, but only because her child's father isn't available anymore. It never occurs to anyone that grandparents like to see their grandchildren without having to work for that privilege.Visually, this movie looks nice: set design, lighting, wardrobe, hair, makeup. Even the locations in New York look nice because these characters only live in undoubtedly upscale Manhattan or severely gentrified Brooklyn, where no one worries about the thousands of low-income people who were forced out of their homes, away from their jobs, friends, and family to provide this beauty for these oblivious and self-centered people.

Eh
Sort of a spoiler (like you can't see it coming, ha!) After Adam Scott was such a jerk I kinda wish she had stayed with Ed Norton. He was perfect in every way.I'm actually reviewing this because my sister and I are sick of seeing the SNL cast in everything. I like Kristen Wiig A LOT, but she gets so much work. Why not give this role to another actor? She's best at madcap comedy. She brought nothing to this part. So she wants to do some dramatic work--no doubt she'll get the chance!Maya Rudolph: She's okay. She's Minnie Ripperton's daughter (a plus). There's nothing special about her--my opinion...everyone is entitled to their own--and she didn't bring anything to this role.Whoever is casting these movies, give other actors a chance! I think I'm going to start boycotting stuff with SNL actors. Enough! already. I'm talking about most of them. I'd love to see more of Eddie Murphy, Garrett Morris, and others that we don't see ad nauseum.

Who talks like this?
I stopped watching this half way through to read the reviews. I had to see if everyone else thought it was as bad as I did/do. Seriously, who talks like this? Making crude comments about her post-birth lady parts. Are we supposed to find that refreshingly honest? What a jerk! And he's supposed to be the "leading man". Oh, I guess because he bought her a coffee maker when she's sleep-deprived after having HIS baby we're supposed to see what a great guy he is. Give me a break! Both the casting and the dialogue for the lead characters is so bad!. I could easily buy into Jon Hamm going around bedding a bunch of gorgeous young women, but Adam Scott? I don't think so. He's adorable but I've never viewed him as a ladies man. And the female character was so mousy. I couldn't stand her.I can only surmise that the positive reviews of this movie were paid for by the promoters.

CRITICAL REVIEW
I do not understand why there are so many negative reviews. It was no blockbuster, but it was nice. The small demographic that are the negative reviews, have much too much expectation or have lost all possibility in faith.

Annoying and Boring
AND I don't like Jennifer Westfeldt at ALL. She wrote it, directed it and then cast herSELF as the not interesting lead. Nope

Awesome performances, despite the material.
This is what "When Harry met Sally" would have looked like with more couples, a baby and NO chemistry NOR interesting dialogue between the main couple (Adam Scott and Jennifer Westfeldt). Performances by ALL were awesome (especially Kristin Wiig and Jon Hamm-very heartfelt and Maya Rudolph, who always shines through with authenticity), despite the boring and unoriginal material.

Daring, bold and refreshing
A challenge to the traditional rom-com plot where the female is pursued relentlessly, clueless about romance, and averse to what everyone knows is the perfect match. In this case, the roles are reversed and the man is the clueless one who has "silly rules" and an extraordinary devise to avoid the pains of reality. Interestingly, the dialogue is not starry-eyed canned lines that leave the audience retching and wondering why they haven't found such an idealistic person but poses the hyperbole "jerk" and risk averse specimens. The ideal specimen that every formula says should "win the game" isn't generating the spark or has that one trait that is a deal-breaker. A very satirical examination of the traditional "5-year" and "10-year" plans for career, marriage and family and those who express adamant need to be unconventional and avoid the "marriage trap".

Not great
There are a few comic moments that will raise a smile, and the ensemble cast is good, but the script and liberal politics let it down. Hollywood is working hard to convince us that promiscuity and abortion are good for us, and this movie is a typical piece of cultural propaganda.

Like being stuck in an argument for the whole film.
It was very obvious they were trying to be funny in this film. The reality was a film that shows all relationships as failures, all marriages as doomed, children as a catalyst for divorce or relationship breakdown, and it felt like you were stuck in the middle of someone's domestic argument, for the entire film. Did it have a happy ending? Sure. Did it have occasional laughs? Sure. But for the remaining 95% of the film, it was loud, aggressive, and kinda miserable.

Boring and predictable.
I thought I would watch this film after my fav film Bridesmaids, omg what a let down! The main characters were talking over each other, a predictable storyline, so boring, I had to apologise to hubby who sat through it with me! Not impressed, straight to the charity shop already! Don't bother buying.
