TYR Towels

Love it, would buy again.
Really really love this towel. It is amazingly absorbent. Just casually touch it to any wet skin and instantly wicks away that moisture. Wring out that moisture and it is ready to go back to work. Supremely useful for swimming practice. Folds down and can be used endlessly. Minimal maintenance required. I got the medium size and it's perfect. I don't know why you would want a big one because you can essentially reuse the tiniest towel by wringing out dry after every pass. Now the quirks. The feel. It is not terrycloth, egyptian, 500 thread count cotton. Feels kind of like chewed gum on your skin. Somewhat naturally sticky. Not cloth like at all. Takes some getting used to.Always leave it moist - but not too moist, and not too enclosed. I learned this the hard way. I kept it in the box it came in, wrapped up, rinsed and wrung out after every use. Over a few months it developed mold in the form of tiny brown spots and a smell. Only got it out with Oxiclean and so far no more mold. I now wrap it and keep in a plastic bag, semi open, out of direct sunlight obviously. It must be allowed to breath.Too dry and it will harden and potentially crack? That's no good so keep it moist.

Larger size is a must
I am a newbie swimmer at 34 years old. Most towels cannot be wrung out well, but this one can be. It is supposed to be kept damp so it doesn't turn hard as a rock, but even if it dries out, all you have to do is get it wet and wring it out again. It is SUPER absorbant. At the gym, I sometimes dry my whole body and hair with it (I have to wring it out after towel-drying my hair) instead of using the pack-towel. I'll also use it to suck some more water out of my wet swim suit at the gym locations that don't have a mechanical suit spinner, and that works well since you're not supposed to wring or twist swimsuit material but the TYR towel can be easily wrung out. I have arthritis flareups in my hands and wrists sometimes, and this towel is fairly easy to wring. The only negative thing is that it needs to be rinsed very well and wrung out every time because you store it in the container it comes in, and it tends to stink after several uses. The container does have a hole in the bottom which lets it breathe, but only minimally.Overall, a great towel for use at the pool and for after showering. It's long enough to hold both ends and dry your back if you're an average sized person. (I am 5'3" and it would work for someone up to at least 6 ft I'd guess.)

LASTS ABOUT SIX MONTHS FOR ME
I am a Masters Swimmer and swim 72 workouts every six months and use the towel every time. After that amount of usage, the towel will have absorbed body oils that won't wash out and will have a couple of tears on the back side and although still useable, I usually open up and start to use a new one at this point. So that comes out to about 18 cents every time you use it. I don't think a regular towel would last much longer and the convenience of this great water absorber makes packing my work out bag a whole lot easier. I don't bother to keep it moist. It dries out between every work out and I just hold it under the shower water to re-energize it. I think they work great but this is the wear and usage I get out of each one.

Works crazy awesome
I can't believe this works so well. I am floored, astounded, flabbergasted, beyond words, shocks, amazed, and all around just.... wow... huh... this is so awesome. The best way to really describe it is like a mushroom- it weighs nothing but can soak up just tons of water, swell beyond what you'd think, holding that water, and then you can desiccate the mushroom, essentially squeeze much of the water out again.Obviously the towel is no a mushroom, but I'd never had anything like this, and no one was able to help me understand just what the heck this would be like. Well, I compare it to mushrooms. The rule at my Gym pool is to dry off after showering, but before getting in the pool, then to towel off after the pool before going back to the locker room, and then of course you towel off after your rinse shower. Some of the ladies bring two or three towels just to use the pool! I bring this tiny hand towel size piece of rubber looking thing and it is literally all I need.People who've never seen one before laugh at me all the time. They laugh until they see me use it, wring it out and use it again, and again, and again, and again... then they ask me what it is and where to get it.

It may last a long time if you take care of it. It lasted over a year with some abuse!
I used mine in the shower, which meant it dried most of the way every day - so I'd wet it down before drying off (marvelously ironic). Wet it down, roll it up, twist it to squeeze the water out. Washed with the laundry three times, and accidentally went through the dryer once (oops!!) - but is still functional, although it has a few tears and is starting to show wear in the center where it is folded. This is an excellent product, and though when I tried to re-order recently it wasn't available, I would definitely order again. I agree that a thorough cleansing with a mild soap in the sink once a week (or even once a month) would be best, I'm not in the least unhappy with needing to replace it after over a year of daily use. We're on well water, so chlorinated water MIGHT (A) reduce the need to clean it and (B) make it more likely to crack.

Great little towel.
This is just what I was thinking of for my son on a diving team. Its that strange spongy material that feels a little gelatinous when wet and holds loads of water. No problems with mold though I store it squeezed out in the original plastic box with the lid off.

Waste of my money
I'm disappointed ...I bought 3 of these for my swimmers and even though we have followed care instructions the towels are peeling ... Usually Tyr is a spot on brand but these towels were a waste of my money. I'll make them work as long as possible because I hate to feel I wasted money but won't buy this brand again.

Stay away from it.
This has to be kept moist and in a container like the the old fashioned chamois cloths they used to use on cars. I just wanted a swim towel that I could through in my swim back. When I found out I tried to return unopened in the original packaging and was informed that it was ineligible for return I'm going with the Aqua Sphere Aqua Dry Towel Sold by: Dolphin Scuba Center instead and will use this for drying off my car.

Never Forget Your Towel
This sport towel is one of a kind. Not many people know about the special properties of this towel. It’s super deliver when wet. And very absorbent. I keep this towel in my hockey bag, unlike my friends who need to bring a cotton towel to every game. With this towel I don’t get a chance to forget. It’s perfect. And I can wash it with my body soap when I am done my shower. It’s always clean.

It seems these towels are stored for long periods in uncontrolled environment. Parts of the towel I received were melted due to heat in transit or some adhesive reaction. Returned product.
