X-ACTO Board Cutter

This exacto knife works great. I use it to cut foamboard to make foamie rc planes. It has really helped to make exact cuts at 90º and 45º angles. Simple and quick to switch between both angles. I definitely recommend this product.

This thing is a huge time saver. I use it on all of my foam board projects. I don't know how I ever managed without it.

The blade is too dull, it requires a tremendous amount of pressure to cut through a 1.5mm mat board. When set to the 45 degree angle with the required amount of cutting pressure the blade moves in its channel so that it doesn’t always cut straight, even though I am using a guide and cutting pad to brace it. It’s very difficult to cut a straight line because of this wiggling of the blade. For thinner paper it may be ok, but doesn’t work well for what I need.

Not sure why Amazon brought up the review of this as a "toy," since it's a very sharp razor knife. That said -- it works well on the foam board, and I like that it retracts for storage. You have to be careful, though, since pressing down too hard while cutting causes the plastic guide to score a shallow groove in the board. This isn't a big deal for most uses, I'm sure, but it can ruin the base of a paper model.

This item was "recommended" as perfect for cutting sticker bombs. It is TERRIBLE. The blades are DULL and it comes with TWO blades mounted on the front. Why? Who knows because the packaging, gets destroyed as you struggle to get this out of its plastic encasing. You get no explanation for the two fanged item, what kind of replacement blades you will need in the future, what to do with the odd one there etc.When you do try to cut anything...good luck. The blades are so dull everything is jagged or ripped.The ONLY thing nice about this is that it is small sized and can fit in the palm of your hand. BUT retracting the blades in and out, difficult. The push/pull is stiff and often you will need to stop, change your grip and firmly hold the top with another hand to pull the blades back or it won't close / open fully.Basically, its junk. Save your money. Get a different cutter.

It comes in a non destructive package which means it harder than ever to get open. When you finally open it the instructions (very few) are destroyed. There is no information on blade replacement or what the brackets do or how to use the product. It comes with two blades mounted but no information why there are two blades. This may be a good product but its use is not obvious.

From what I gather, to protect the blade tip, cut your foam board on top of another foam board, i.e. do not expose the tip to wood, glass or other hard surfaces.

This cutter is the best cutter I have ever owned for cutting foam core board and for trimming photographs. I highly recommend it.
