I think it's a good value, no complaints.
PRODUCT LISTING IS NO LONGER THE PRODUCT I PURCHASEDNormally I wouldn't post a review of this before even cat-testing it, but this product has 0 reviews as of right now, so I figured I'd at least give my first impressions. I will try to remember to update once it's been scratched a bit.First, some specs. The base is 16" x 16" chip-board. Post is 3" diameter, 32" tall. There rope has 6 windings per inch, (~4mm diameter rope). Toy on the top is soft faux fur with on 6" of string. No assembly instructions included, but it's really self-explanatory.Parts:- Base: Comes as 2 halves connected together by the faux fur stapled to it. There's a hole through the seam between the two pieces, countersunk for a washer and bolt head. Photo will explain better.- Bottom Pole: 3" diameter x 15" length, threaded nut built into both ends.- Top Pole: 3" diameter x 15" length. Top has faux fur and a danging toy. The top is not solid or removable. It feels like the fur is wrapped over plastic, makes a crinkling sound when you press on it.- "Connect Board": a wooden ring with a hole in the middle, covered with faux fur.- Allen-head bolt- Threaded rod- Large washer- Allen key.Assembly:- The base is split in two, but the carpet does not have a hole in the center. You'll need to cut one. Easiest way I found is to fold the two halves of the base together and use scissors to cut a small slit in the fur from the back.- Thread the bolt and washer from the bottom through the base, and into the bottom pole. Tighten with the allen key. Make sure the halves of the base are even.- Thread the rod into the bottom pole, add the "connect board", then thread the top rod onto it. I don't think there's a stop for how deep the rod goes, so try to keep it so that the same amount goes into both poles. Tighten by spinning the top pole.- You could also assemble this using only the top pole to make it 16" tall if you wanted. It looks pretty much exactly like the product picture. It's a really really cheap design, but it looks nice enough. I figured why spend $50 on something that is going to get destroyed anyway? I think this will actually be very easy to maintain/repair, though for the price it may be a wash whether to repair or just replace. The base plate can be easily replaced by anything you want, provided you can drill a hole through it for the bolt. The poles seem to be pretty standard rope-wrapped-around-cardboard-tube.It seems quite stable. With no weight on it, I'm able to tip the base up until one side is about 12" off the ground (about 50 degrees) before it topples over instead of righting itself. The fur on the base wraps around, so I think there's minimal risk of scratching the floor. But that does mean that it will slide around a lot. Might be worth adding some rubber feet if this will be on hardwood or tile so the cat doesn't have to chase it around. Or maybe that will be fun.Overall, it's about what I expected and looks to be a pretty good value.UPDATE: I've had this post and my cat for about a month. It took her a little while to get used to it, but she now American Gladiator style climbs right up the post and dives off it. It seems to be holding up just fine. HOWEVER, because the product listing is now completely different than the one I bought, I'm dropping the rating all the way down, since it's not even the same product anymore.

Do not waste your money
We adopted a 6 month old kitten and purchased this scratching post 6 weeks ago. He really loved this scratching post until the entire board underneath it cracked while he was scratching on the post. The board appears to be thick but the middle of the board, where the post attaches, is clearly just glue board. It snapped the board in half, right in the spot where the post attaches to the board. We can no longer let him use it because there is no solid base to support the post. Very disappointing! I never would have imagined that a 6 month old kitten could snap a board just by leaning against the post while scratching. Will definitely have to find a post that is more solid.

Kitten is a fan!!
Easy assembly, with logic... It didn’t come with instructions so I had to come back to the item on Amazon to see where the gray disc went. There also is no hole in the bottom carpet so I had to find a razor blade to cut through. The least you could do is throw in a slip of paper with instructions! As for the product itself, it’s awesome. Definitely the best bang for buck I’ve seen. Very sturdy (though my kitten is only 2.5 pounds!) as she flings herself on it from across the room! Good for scratching while sitting on the ground OR for climbing and playing with the ball from the top. This is way more of a hit for her than I expected.

Decent cat scratching post
This post is a decent scratcher for cats. It’s on the light weight side and the pole is a little less in diameter than I would prefer. When putting it together I had to poke a hole through the carpet on the base as it wasn’t already cut out for the screw. I bought this one because of the price, color and height. I find my cats enjoy the stretch while sharpening their nails. It’s steady enough that it hasn’t tipped over, but don’t expect anything sturdy and heavy here. I have 4 cats and 2 of them have expressed an interest in using it. One loves to just come and lay partly on the base and one loves to scratch and actually plays with the ball that hangs from the top. There are no instructions given with this, you just screw the obvious pieces together. I might consider buying it again but not until I see how long it lasts. I’ve only had about 2 weeks so far.

Poor quality with safety issues for a cat.
Very disappointed with this cat scratcher. The staples holding rope are sticking out. I got stuck on the finger so definitely not safe for a cat. The sisal stopped 1 or so inches from bottom exposing cardboard. There is no hole where base should screw in. There are no instructions either. It is being returned.

Cats broke it in less than two weeks
I ordered this product on March 24 and received it on March 26. I woke up this morning, April 6, to find the post broken at the base and lilting heavily to the side. The base also came in two pieces, presumably to ship in a smaller box. While it wasn't difficult to assemble, there was a cutout in each half, and the pieces needed to be held together while tightening the screw to secure the post to the base. Someone that has difficulty with fine motor functions may have trouble assembling this on their own.I would not recommend this product to anyone. I will be looking elsewhere for a replacement.

Don’t waste your money, purchase a different type of scratch post…
This is the 2nd time I’ve purchased these…the first time the base wouldn’t stay together and evently were in 2 separate pieces at that the time they were only kittens. So I thought I’d give it another shot since they do seem pretty useful, although I found they aren’t very stable unless the base is up against a wall. I purchased 2 more last month and upon putting it together I felt the rope wasn’t wrapped closely at the top, it seemed as if whomever wrapped the post was trying to cover more post by using less rope. It didn’t seem as secure and wrapped tightly as the other post and I was right, as evidenced of the unraveling in the picture! ;-(
