Product Description Agatha Christie Collection featuring Peter Ustinov (DVD) (3-Pack)You’re in good company with Hercule Poirot (Peter Ustinov), Agatha Christie’s impeccable Belgian sleuth who’s always at his best at chic soirées where the hospitality is warm…and the corpses are cold. Match wits with the master in this full-course banquet of mystery involving a country-house game of murder turned real (Dead Man’s Folly), a movie star turned amateur detective (Murder in Three Acts) and a dinner party turned deadly (Thirteen at Dinner). Bon appétit!]]> .com Before the suave David Suchet, there was the imposing, twinkly Peter Ustinov as Agatha Christie's unflappable Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. Ustinov's Poirot, who appeared in several TV films of Christie's works in the mid-'80s, is not as metrosexual as Suchet's. He plays Poirot as world-weary and ever-so-slightly rumpled--despite the jaunty upturned trademark mustache. Thirteen for Dinner features Poirot trying to solve the murder of one Lord Edgeware, investigating, among others, the lovely mystery woman played by a witchy Faye Dunaway. (And in a fun bit of foreshadowing, Suchet appears here in the role of Poirot's sidekick Japp.) Dead Man's Folly finds Poirot and an old friend, a mystery writer played by Jean Stapleton, at a "murder hunt" party at which the dead body really does turn up dead. Murder in Three Acts finds Poirot far afield in sunny Acapulco, at a glorious villa belonging to a suave actor played by Tony Curtis. A random death-by-martini at a posh party opens the door to the possibility of murder--handy that Poirot is there to help the local constables. The supporting cast features top '80s TV actors like Emma Samms as the actor's arm candy, and Diana Muldaur (the wicked Rosalind Shays on L.A. Law. The production values are also topnotch--with gorgeous location shots in Mexico adding both romance but also unnerving isolation to the proceedings. As Ustinov's Poirot says after the dreadful event, "Logic tells me it's not murder--but instinct keeps tapping me on the shoulder." --A.T. Hurley

It is incredible!
By RevitAgatha Christie Collection staring Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot in three mysteries: Dead Man's Folly, Murder in Three Acts, and Thirteen for Dinner is a great addition to any collection of British mysteries in DVD format. Peter Ustinov brings a breath of fresh air to three of Agatha Christie's finest murder mysteries. He adds a hint of relaxed humor to an otherwise high tension event; as usual he is assisted by Hastings, played by Jonathan Cecil. In Thirteen for Dinner, sometimes listed as Lord Edgeware Dies, Faye Dunaway plays a duel role, first as an award winning Hollywood actress and then as a professional imitator. Believe it or not David Suchet does a great job of playing Scotland Yards Chief Inspector Japp. All is well until Hercule Poirot calls his little grey cells into action. When the principles are finally assembled and the shocking truth is revealed; Japp graciously offers to give the perpetrator a ride to Scotland Yard.In A Murder in Three Acts, staring Tony Curtis playing the part of a retiring actor Charles Cartwright and Emma Samms playing "Egg", a beautiful young dazzler, the plot becomes so intertwined that it takes three murders before Hercule Poirot concentrates his efforts on building a house of cards stacked on edge and puts his little grey cells whirling. In the final gathering of the principles, Hercule Poirot gives an amazing summary of the events that have taken place and the identity of the perpetrator becomes obvious. In Dead Man's Folly, Poirot's old friend, detective novelist Ariadne Oliver played by Jean Stapleton, pairs her intuitive detecting skills with Poirot's little grey cells to put the perpetrators of three brutal murders into custody. In the mean time a Murder Hunt, the Folly, and the Fair provide color and excitement for an amazing weekend and outing at the manor house on a beautiful British canal. This is a wonderful set of three discs, a must own for every enthusiast of British mysteries. They will provide hours of entertainment while you attempt to identify the wrong doers before Poirot does. If you already own A murder in Three Acts and Lord Edgeware Dies, staring David Suchet as Poirot (if not you should buy them now), you can make a first hand comparison of the performances of both Suchet and Ustinov paying Poirot in the same two mysteries. A study of the slightly different interpretations of Agatha Christie's two mysteries by two excellent actors will open a whole wonderful world of educational thought, speculation and enlightenment.

Ustinov at His Finest
Many people are only acquainted with Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot, but I recall his memorable performances in "The Egyptian" and "Quo Vadis." His Hercule Poirot is delightful. Of equal enjoyment is the actor portraying his long-time (and sometimes long-suffering) friend Arthur Hastings. Here, as in the other full-length films of Ustinov's Poirot, the casts are an excellent cross-section of American and British actors and actresses, such as Faye Dunaway and Tony Curtis. Incidentally, you will discover that David Suchet (whose Poirot was highly successful on the TV "Mystery" series) appeared in "Thirteen at Dinner" as Inspector Japp. These TV movies are just the right length and sustain your interest from first minute to last. The locations, which range from a stately manor in England to a cliff-top home in Acapulco, are breathtaking. It would be a crime if you didn't own this excellent collection.

A classic Agatha Christie played by Peter Ustinov as only he could play
A classic Agatha Christie played by Peter Ustinov as only he could play, If you have in your Agatha Christie Movie collection the Death on the Nile with Peter Ustinov who plays the famous Detective Hercule Poirot, then Please dont pass up completeing the collection with these Three classic movies and Peter Ustinov playing a role that I can say only he can play. You will not be disapointed, If you are a Peter Ustinov fan as I am, then you have to see how he plays his repeat performance as Hercule Poirot as he did in "Death on the nile" with Class and Cunning. Agatha Christie Mysteries are Superb and all time favorites of the Mystery buffs such as myself, as they are the original "who done it" Mysteries.

Excellent renditions
These three Poirot adaptations were originally made for TV movies. I found them to be highly entertaining and very accurate in following the books. I agree with some of the other reviewers that Hastings was made to look unnecessarily stupid in these movies, but I don't think it is fair to compare them constantly to the Suchet adaptations. I would agree that Suchet is definitely the quintessential Poirot, but these are just as good in their own fashion, and they are very amusing in places. If you enjoy the character and not just one man's interpretation, then you will enjoy this set, provided it doesn't skip or freeze during playback, something mine regrettably does.

Agatha Christie Collection Featuring Peter Ustinov
i haven't seen these movies in years and i always wanted them on DVD. As a great Agatha Christie Fan i must say, that Peter Ustinov is a genius! Of course in his appearance, he is not the perfect Hercule Poirot- Poirot never had white hair! But its also lovely, to see David Suchet as Inspector Japp, whom i admire so much as Hercule Poirot. And all three movies are filled with celebreties like Tony Curtis, David Suchet of course ect. Of course for some people it might look a little odd, that the stories of Agatha Christie are taking place in "modern times" meaning the 80's. Thats something, you actually realise in the end, when you think: " wait a minute- that doesn't fit!" But Peter Ustinov is amazing and i think it was a little challenge for David Suchet to fit in these big footsteps. (He made it of course!)

It plays GREAT on US Blu-ray players
This review is not about the transfers or the actual films but is for anyone looking for the same information about this product that I was. As a US Amazon customer I wasn't sure if it would play in my US Blu-ray player. A lot of the reviews for this product seemed to be for other Agatha Christie movie collections (a lot of them about the made for TV Peter Ustinov films.) I wasn't sure if it was Region Free since it is a Italian release - even after a Google search. But I threw the dice and ordered it since it was only around $14. It plays GREAT on US Blu-ray players! Much cheaper than the DVD collection that had just three of the films. Each film is on a separate disc in a thin blu-ray case.
