Great piece of science fiction and satire of society
In the late-1960s/1970s Charlton Heston became the poster child of post-apocalyptic films. He starred in the 1971 Omega Man and the 1973 Soylent Green. Before that however, he was featured in Planet of the Apes in 1968.The film was written by Michael Wilson and Rod Sterling of the TV series The Twilight Zone. It featured Charlton Heston as Taylor an astronaut who returned to Earth 2,000 years after he left to find it inhabited by intelligent apes who have their own society where humans, who can’t speak, are their slaves. He comes across two ape scientists Zira played by Kim Hunter and Cornelius played by Roddy McDowall who at first take an interest in him for research purposes and then befriend him.The movie is a great piece of science fiction and satire. First, the cinematography is amazing. The opening scene when the spaceship crashes gives a great panoramic view of the setting. The ending with the Statue of Liberty is one of the most memorable ones you’ll see in a movie. The first site of the apes, which comes in the form of gorillas hunting down humans for a new batch of slaves is pretty amazing. The ape society Taylor finds is a commentary upon our own. The orangutans are the ruling class. The chimps are the intellectual middle class. The gorillas are militaristic soldiers. The humans are the working class/slaves. The point being every society stratifies into different classes and has a division of labor. The ending is also a note that civilization doesn't always lead to progress but can end up destroying itself. The fact that the movie led to several sequels, a TV show, and then was remade not once, but twice in recent years shows the enduring legacy of the original release.C

Poorly Regulated-Audio Soundtrack!!!
Prime needs to really rearrange or regulate the video's audio soundtrack of their movies!!- 😟ROARS SO LOUD!!.. 😣😱when the sound affeçts come in, only to barely hear the words when they speak!!..😦 I'm sorry to say, little movies do I listen to in Prime anymore because of this poor regulating of their audio soundtracks. 😲 Always quickly having to lower the sound button so I don't blow my neighbors outa' bed!! 😵😵😵!! No foolin', Jack!! 😮My tenant got blown away😲 n asked me to please turn the sound down and I totally understood how they felt. I explained what was goin' on with this audio soundtrack that all of a sudden it barrels out loud 😵vs. barely hearing anyone in the picture speaking!!😮😶😥 Which,.. I had the sound 'maxed out' on the highest level 😱 just to hear them speaking!! 😠😞Also, you can get very tired😕😩 😴having to keep being a johnny-on-the-spot😇 monitoring the sound!😕 It's all pretty bad- bad-...BAD!!😤 PLEASE, PRIME!! DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND I'LL NOT BE BUYING SO MUCH FROM TUBI !!!- 😥Other then this,..you have an easy selection on just about all I could find in the way of good, new n older, movies!~😁😀😉

Watch it, then sit and really think about it.
If you haven't seen this I'll expect you have been undercover in Russia for quite some time or you are younger than my coffee mug. Either way I feel for you if you haven't seen this great classic. It is wonderful and brings so many things to light if you let it.

Those Groovy ..APES ...
This movie I have seen many times over the 20-something years on television ..I think that this movie was certainly ahead of it's time .. The special make up,, the actor's and the story .. I can only imagine what people who walked into the theater that day ..had envisioned in their minds ..when the first few scenes appeared on the screen's..? Mr. Heston ..what a dream boat in the look's department ..certainly allowed himself to absorb his character of the astronaut ..who wanted to break free from those darn apes..!! The actor's did a very good job.. despite having to wear those costumes and all of that make-up, prosthetic's for days, week's at a time . I must say that Roddy McDowall pretty much stole the movie .. because of his voice ..Actress Kim Hunter ..such a beauty ... Linda Harrison who played the girl {Nova} ..is still alive . She was married to Mega producer at the time the late Richard D. Zanuck....she had two children. Actor Maurice Evans played Dr. Zaius ,we recall him from "Bewitched" ..he played Samantha Stevens dad .. James Whitmore who younger generation's will recall from "The Shawshank Redemption".. Some of the movie was filmed in Malibu,California .,,Page,Arizona ... Nothing personal I prefer this one over the re-boot/remake 2001,2011 ... Come on young Hollywood get it together .. No more re-makes Or reboot's ... Yes you will bring a new audience to a Classic film.. but if this is all that you "Greedy" idiot's can do..? Then it's about time that someone else put you guys/gal writer's out to pasture and ..Turn up the heat !

Memorable, but could have been smarter!
Primitive (excuse the pun) alongside of 2001 A Space Odyssey, but imaginatively campy and a whole lot of fun! One thing, though. I understand the need for maximum shock effect in the final moments, with the shadow of Lady Liberty's spikes splayed upon the sand before an approaching and incredulous Charlton Heston, but the preserved statue is impossibly intact! Like Ozymandias's likeness strewn about a patch of desert ("shattered visage," "trunkless legs"), after 2,000 years The Statue of Liberty would have to be worse for wear. Ludicrously, the most delicate parts are intact: the crown with all 7 spikes, the entire left arm holding aloft an intact torch and a full-featured face to boot. It momentarily feels like a replica from a carnival sideshow, standing on fully half of its trunk and rising up from the sand as if it was shorn in half only recently by a storm. Couldn't Charlie boy have camped, then gone foraging the next morning? Quite dramatically, he finds a piece here, then a piece there until the startling revelation rises in him. As he brushes away the last of the dirt and rocks from the stone tablet carved with "1776", he goes down! He sinks into the sand, leaning onto the uncovered symbol, while letting out his howls that damn mankind! Better? No. But smarter. Enjoy the film.
