A Wonderful Book
I loved "Recipes for a Sacred Life" by Rivvy Neshama. You know how it is when you go into a restaurant and look through their menu and you're drawn to the variety of appetizers for dinner instead of having a one course main meal? This is how I felt about Neshama's delightful book. Instead of one long book about how a sacred life should look, Nehama offers these beautiful, small moments from her own life that are presented throughout the book, shedding insights into how she came to recognize the sacred in all of life. Perhaps what I found most appealing was her honesty in allowing her true emotions to surface in any given situation. I think we are often under the impression that in order to live a sacred life, one must be "happy" all of the time instead of being truthful about how we really feel. Neshama helps to dispel this notion. Beautifully written and thought-provoking, "Recipes for a Sacred Life" will leave you feeling like Neshama is a new close friend, sharing her humor, wit, and wisdom with you and your own sacred life. A lovely book to be read through, dog-eared, and enjoyed many times.

Short chapters filled with love
I would say this is a quick read filled with positive and personal stories. Stories that help you see the joy in life. A little hippy, but very sweet. I really enjoyed it.

Touched My Soul
Lots of good stories and little things that can be done anytime or anywhere in order to lead a more sacred life. I noticed a lot of reviews saying that this book is quite boring because of all the personal stories. The book is comprised of short stories from the life of the author. Most are probably the length of two screenshots. They teach the reader about mindfulness. I found them interesting and useful. I am also looking to lead a more peaceful life and I feel like this book teaches us some useful recipes through these short, personalized stories. It's a good read for someone who is looking for little ways to lead a more peaceful, sacred life.

Recipes with SOME stories included
I thought it was going to be a book with mostly stories and some recipes sprinkled in but no, it was different then what I expected. I lost interest since it wasn’t an actual story.

Delightful blessing!
Recipes for a Sacred Life by Rivvy NeshamaThis book of short vignettes is a true treasure to read and own. I have reread many of the selections for a lift when I needed a wisdom boost. She draws on the work of several traditions of spiritual beliefs and many writers making it a compendium of gathered wisdom. It reminds me of the wise things my mother said, much like her mother and some of my favorite authors. We can forget so much of what we learn. A favorite is her piece on poco a poco---a reminder to take things little by little in this fast moving world. Her work centers me at the kitchen table of my mother or Rachel Remen, MD with her wisdom and My Grandfather’s Blessings. Rivvy Neshma’s book is a delightful blessing for a harried time.

I especially enjoyed part three of this book.
This book wasn’t what I thought it was. Still I particularly liked part three, Animal Chats and Other Unions With Nature. One of my favorite stories was, Simples Pleasures. Reading this story stimulated my sensory memories as I smelled the air dried sheets and recalled the joy of playing hide and seek between the billowing fabrics. It took me back to a place I wanted to stay. Better than an all expenses paid vacation was the trip back down memory lane that this book helped me recall.

Simply said, a great read.
For about thirty years, a New Age book store was one of my favorite places to be. Then one day, I just couldn't find anything that seemed to give me new information. So I stopped shopping around for spiritual books. But Recipes for a Sacred Life was a joy to discover. In many ways it was a refresher course, but don't we all need that? On the other hand, the book made me think about many things in a new way. It didn't shout out at the reader, but rather unfurled like a beautiful flower. Rivvy Neshama makes it all feel fresh and new. She doesn't hide behind perfection, so she allows the reader to forgive herself for being less than perfect. The stories are fascinating and they flow. It is very peaceful reading. This will be my go to book in the years to come when troubles arise and I am in the need for something comforting. It is not a religious book, don't let the title fool you. The book feels like the cover looks.

Soul-nourishing
It took me a while to warm up to this book-it consists of short chapters which each reflect on an aspect of life. But it was an enjoyable read and worth my time.

Healing
I found this book, for me, to be life transforming. I loved the honesty coming from the author, making me feel, for once that my own insecurities were not unique to me but to Life in general. Reading this book has given me the impetus to keep moving forward, to embrace all my quirks, as they are my quirks. They are “me”. I loved the humor, seeing the lighter side of the dark sides of my life. Loved that I can find sacredness in simple things and don’t have to always be looking for grandeur to feel “at one” with God. In other words KISS - keep it simple stupid and know that joy comes from doing “joy”. Enjoying the peace being felt on reading the last pages.

Did not live up to my expectations
The stories are very brief, a couple of pages each. Nice if you want to pick up and put down the book and just read one or two at a time. I felt that the author could have developed each story/the characters in more depth. Sometimes the point being made was a bit simplistic and other times not very clear.I was expecting something more inspiring and maybe a bit more spiritual - not in a religious way, but somehow it just fell flat, I didn't feel that there was any real learning or message to me to self-reflect upon after reading each one. Haven't even finished reading the whole book since I bought it many months ago.

Disengenuous
This is a vacuous and shall book with an attractive cover the writings are simple, mediocre and incredibly badly executed. They fall in the category of new age. It was a vacation read and a huge disappointment
