A fantastic set, "Ghostbusters 1 & 2" on Blu-Ray is a must-buy for fans! (And the "grainy" image is SUPPOSED to be like that.)
I'm going to start this review with a quick mini-rant. I've seen quite a few reviews pointing out the "grainy image" (particularly of the first film) as a fault of this release, claiming that the transfer was bad. No. I'm sorry but this is an incorrect assumption. This is actually an excellent transfer. Perhaps not perfect. But an excellent transfer regardless. People do not seem to understand that film is a medium that uses "film grain" to comprise the image. The "grainy image" you're seeing is actually the "film grain" that makes up the picture. The fact that this is visible shows how DETAILED the picture is, and how it is a much better representation of the original source material. It's sort-of sad that this needs to be explained, but people are incorrect in assuming that "Blu-Ray means everything will look sharp and new." Blu-Ray merely represents a better, more detailed version of the film. And because the original film was fairly grainy (heck, it was even slightly noticeable in the old DVD's we had), you're going to notice it on Blu-Ray.So the "grain" is a good thing. NOT a bad thing. It shows how gorgeous and detailed the transfer is. Also, I experience none of the "washed out" image that one or two other people have complained about. (And if you want more information, please look up the "HD Rants" series on YouTube, which covers a lot of other common misconceptions people have about Blu-Ray in ways more eloquent than I could ever explain.)This new Blu-Ray set, released for the 30th Anniversary of the "Ghostbusters" franchise, is an absolute must-buy for fans of the series. Boasting wonderful picture and sound quality on both films, an admirable collection of special features and a great-looking package, this is a near-perfect set!I won't go into the films too much plot-wise, as just about everyone has seen or at least hear of them, but here's the quick pitch: a team of paranormal investigators start a new business where they use their newly developed technology to catch (or "bust") ghosts that are tormenting the public. However, various dark forces at work threaten our hilarious group of heroes in both films. The packaging (obviously the first thing you will notice), is quite nice. Following the influence of some other special edition releases, the case is essentially a "hardcover book", which houses the two discs, a small book of notes on the films, and even a really nice insert featuring a note from director Ivan Reitman. My only nitpick about the packaging is that the plastic which holds the discs is a bit too "rigid." It can be hard to "snap" the discs in and out. Although this is not a deal-killer for the packaging at all.The films themselves look and sound fantastic. The transfer is quite gorgeous, and there's a good level of detail in the image that is far better than DVD releases were able to offer. The sound quality is very nice. I wish I had a better sound system, because a classic like this deserves it, especially with such a good release. The features are quite nice. In addition to containing previous features from former releases (such as commentary, etc.), this new feature also hosts some new content. The most exciting being a 2-part retrospective interview with Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd. (One part is on each disc.)For me, the appeal of this set is being able to own both films in one Blu-Ray set for a good price. I got this for $15 at the store, and it's just wonderful. Definitely worth buying for fans wanting to experience the films in High-Def! Highly recommended.

Great Digibook release of Ghostbusters 1 & 2
I won't go into the details of the films as most people will have seen them already and will have already been covered by other reviewers. So onto the 4k mastered & included Digibook, actually it is a pretty good package, the 25 page digibook is presented very well gives nice behind scenes info on both films aswell as original 1984 Talent bios for the main stars and director. Ghostbusters features all the original extras plus a few new exciting additions A retrospective roundtable discussion with Director Ivan Reitman & Actor Dan Akyroyd that lasts 24 mins. Ghostbusters music video & poster art gallery. I have to say the telestrator commentary with Ivan Reitman, producer Joe Medjuck and Actor the late Harold Ramis that featured on the original 1999 DVD release has never appeared on any of the bluray releases thus far. It would have been nice as that was a groundbreaking innovation for DVD at that time and would have been perfect on Bluray (Ghostbusters was the first title to ever do it) here we just have the regular commentary fun as it is it would have been nice to have the telestrator picture commentary. The 4K picture (I don't have a 4K tv so I don't know how good it would be on that) is very clean and presentable but I have notice several scenes throughout the film are very grainy and not as sharp as they should be given the 4K tag. Ghostbusters 2 (first time on Bluray) comes with slightly smaller bunch of special featuresA shorter 16 min Roundtable discussion with Dan Akyroyd and Ivan Reitman where they touch on the sequel and the possibility of a Ghostbusters 3. 7 Deleted Scenes (although word has it on the internet - see Youtube reviews- that there were substantially more deleted scenes that have not made their way here). Rounding out the small selection of special features is the music video "on our own" by Bobby Brown, which I have to say Brown copied the same template that Ray Parker Jnr employed with his video i.e including celebrities such as Lori Singer and Christopher Reeve prior to the accident that crippled him in 1995. The 4K picture on this title is much better, picture has been scrubbed up quite nicely you'd think this film came only yesterday. There could have been scope for more new extras given the 30th anniversary of the first film & 25th anniversary of the second but it is a very solid package and having it in digibook housing both movies makes it very collectible item much better than the UK where they only get both films in an amaray case with a slip on cover.
