Does what it says on the box.
This is identical to the Addonics AD5HPMREU in every way except price.I'm using mine with (5) 2TB WD RE4-GP discs mounted in an old Antec Lanboy case to make my own DAS. They are connected to a 2011 Mac Mini Server with a Kanex KTU which is my home server.I downloaded the JMicron JMB360 RAID software from Addonics' website and was off to the races. I don't have synthetic benchmarks handy but it at least doubled both the read and write than the same drives in JBOD mode using OpenZFS RAIDZ on OSX. Admittedly, I hadn't found a good place to put the ZIL so it was on the same drives as the rest of the data. Also, ZFS will probably have much better data protection, disaster recovery and error handling than this simple "hardware" RAID controller. For the price, it's hard to beat.UPDATE: 11/21/2017It's been over a year an a half and it's still chugging along. The only issues I have are when I accidentally disconnect the eSATA cable. Fortunately, I just plug it back in and both the computer and RAID controller pick up where they left off.

Scam! Beware!
Scam. Item delivered to me was labeled as a oodelay sata multiplier but on the inside it was an old laptop charger.

Great innovative product
Great innovative product. Allowed me to put a bunch of smaller SATA drives, that had been replaced in other systems, into a Windows Storage Space on my Windows 10 HTPC. Oodelay support was very helpful in providing a complaint port multiplier card, since my original eSATA adapter card (Syba) did not really support multiple attached drives even though the description said it did. Used Sans Digital HDDRACKS 5 bay and a re-purposed ATX Power Supply. Fantastic low cost NAS alternative.

Fantastic. I have slapped a raspberry pi on this ...
Fantastic. I have slapped a raspberry pi on this and three hard drives on the other end. I now have the most securely store media collection of anyone I know.Annoyingly, though it has this sort of low power state that tricks the pi into thinking it's disconnected, I have to have a script set a write command to it once a minute to keep it awake.

Best bang for the buck!
Got a old SCSI CD external array laying around collecting dust? Want to build a ESATA drive array on the cheap? Then you'll need one of these!Easy to install, easy to configure. Even a democrat can do it!

It worked flawlessly with the recent Intel USB3 host and Ubuntu 16.04.1
I used it in transparent mode (default). It worked flawlessly with NUC6I7KYK and Ubuntu 16.04.1, moved big chunks of data to and from three HDDs under ZFS.

Working great as bridge board for multiple optical drives
Working great as bridge board for multiple optical drives.Simply left board in "individual drives" mode and all the optical drives are individually accessible.
