Performs as advertised
I have had this meter about one week. So far it has passed the testing I have done on it. I am a professional field technical engineer and make my living using technical equipment like this. I also have access to highly accurate lab grade equipment. So far the meter has met the calibration and measurement specs listed on-line. The biggest drawback that I see for measuring voltages is when measuring AC VOLTAGES. If you are measuring PURE sinewave voltages - then all is good. However, voltages that control dimmers, other control devices or electronic power supplies often distort waveforms such that voltage and current measurements with this meter will not be accurate. These will be non-sinusoidal waveforms and this type of meter will have error rates anywhere from 5% error to over 40% error. So beware of what AC voltages you are measuring. If you are sure you are measuring AC waveforms that have not been distorted (ie, are really sinusoidal waveforms) then you should be confident the readings are correct. Devices like light bulbs, simple portable or room heaters etc typically do not distort the AC sinewave so should give accurate voltage and current readings,The good news is this meter will deliver expected results when measuring DC voltages and currents. It also has had accurate frequency and resistance measurements.BOTTOM LINE: If you need to measure AC voltages that have been distorted (non-sinusoidal waveforms) then op for another meter such as the next grade up MS2108. This is listed as a TRUE-RMS reading meter and is the type needed to accurately measure distorted (non-sinusoidal waveforms) AC waveforms. If you DO NOT need to measure distorted waveforms or focus primarily on DC signals, resistance etc. then this will be a great meter for you.

First purchase was a used/return. Second one better
Purchased through seller "andoer". The meter seems to work ok, and I like the overall features, but....I was suspicious when I opened the box, as it looked like a previously used/returned item. The 3 AAA batteries were missing from the box, although they are shown in the product description photos. The test leads will not stay plugged into the meter and will fall out. I am going to reorder, hopefully from a different vendor and see what I get next.Ordered from a different vendor. This one came WITHOUT a box, and had Klein test leads (which are VERY nice). The LCD display had a protective film over it, which my first meter did not. This one did not include batteries either. The test leads would not stay inserted in this one as well. I tried several other sets of test leads that I had and found some that fit nice and snug. I like the meter's features enough to deal with the negatives. Overall it is a very good deal for what you get and the price.Amp setting AC/DC is changed by pressing the yellow button. The LED light is quite useful. The backlighting is awesome. There is an audio beep to remind you that the meter has been left on.I measured several larger capacitors up to 1000uF and it was fairly accurate, however, the larger the capacitor, the longer it takes to get a final reading.

Very good meter but defective test leads
I really like this meter because it can measure DC current at the 40A scale and the 400A scale. I use them all the time for Solar power work. I just measure DC Volts and DC current. But the feature that made me buy a bunch of them is that it can go into RS232 mode and transmit data for an Arduino datalogger! I use an UNO R3 and an RS232 shield or a tiny RS232 to TTL converter board. But the reason I only give four stars for this batch that I purchased, is that the test leads tha come with the meter are NOT compatible with the meter. The connection is wobbly and is not making reliable electrical contact with the jacks in the meter!! This is a potentially dangerous situation if you are working with high voltages and want to make sure a circuit is deactivated before working on it!I purchased this meter about two years ago and the test leads work perfectly with the older version. So something has changed either with the jacks on the meter or the plugs on the test leads It needs to be fixed for sure!OK I just swapped test leads from a good meter and they fit very snugly on the new meter and ohm test worked perfectly.

Very good current clamp, very disappointing volt meter due to test lead/probe connection inside meter
If I could I would have given these two and a half stars. I have purchased many other MASTECH products over the years, including the Mastech MS8268 Digital AC/DC Auto/Manual Range Digital Multimeter Meter , and a mastech HY3080 variable power supply, and I have always been very impressed with their value, durability, and accuracy. This clamp on multi meter is the first time for me that mastech failed to hit the ball out of the park. I use these professionally to diagnose power sport and generator electrical issues. Works very well in AC and DC current modes. My gripe with this meter is the terminals for the test leads do not make good contact at all times! I tested this meter out at home and found it was accurate before bringing it into work. Upon testing a motorcycle charging system, I found a reading in the milivolts and was about to write a work estimate. Luckily, for the customer and I, I took a second look. This time, I found Volts! I traced the problem to either the meter itself or the test leads. Since I had another Mastech multimeter at work that was known to be accurate I borrowed the test leads from that one. With known good test leads in this meter, they were sloppy and could easily be moved around inside. It only sometimes makes good contact and you have to be careful! The amp readings are spot on, and I've gone to only relying on this meter for amp readings and fall on my other meter for other uses.In essence, very good as a current clamp, might be just as good as a volt meter but due to poor quality control in regards to the test probe jacks/terminals I will never be able to tell you. Happy to have a good clamp meter, but not happy this couldn't also by my volt meter. Come on Mastech, bring the quality back!!
