Black Diamond Icon Polar Headlamp

Mountaineering I was camped high one night. About 10pm someone was descending and then re-ascending a rockfield near us looking for the coulouir to lead them down. He was wearing this headlamp. From 1/2 to 1/4 mile away it appeared he was using a light that belonged on the side of a helicopter. Impossibly bright it was lighting the rocks for at least 50 meters in front of him. Looked like it needed to be powered by a car battery. One would think it was crazy and dangerous to try and descend the steep loose couloir in the dark, but its very reasonable with a light like this. Using our primitive headlamps we guided the guys to our ledge, shared water and told them the route down. Before they left I asked the headlamp and it was this Icon Polar.Positives:- extremely bright!- AA batteries, so long life- cable between battery pack and light is very strong and durable- 4 AA batteries is heavy to wear on your head, much more comfortable to wear that weight in your pocket.- normal batteries don't work when its very cold, with this the batteries stay warm in your inner pocket.- all lighting modes are dimmable, including the red light- red light kicks but when setting up camp after dark as it doesn't wreck your night vision, or that of your camp mates.I've got no negatives to declare except maybe the price, but believe me this thing is a keeper. The bundle of battery and lamp and cable is a little awkward to untangle, but is excellent once you have it on. I frequently use it with battery in my coat pocket and the headlamp in my hand, which is actually convenient when working on your car in a limited space.Get it you won't be sorry. This thing rocks.

Would have given it 5 stars but it's a complicated unit to use. Holding a button for a few seconds( either 3 or 6), cycling through the different lighting options. When things get suddenly dark and you grab this item....you will wish it had a simpler turn on/off system. Once you figure it out (there is a learning curve), it works well. Not as intuitive for use. If a smart phone makes you queasy, don't get this headlamp. The fact that is uses AA batteries in a separate compartment is a definite plus! I bought one of those clamshell headphone cases to hold this item in my backpack. The unit comes with a small crib sheet /detailed instructions. This unit is bright too, and could be dimmed nicely. Has red LEDs, and a strobe feature.The battery pack has a screw on connection so you could thread the power cable through your outfit to the headlamp and keep the battery pack near your body for warmth and better performance in cold weather.

I am superbly content with my headlamp... Where else but with bd will I find a waterproof and pretty much bulletproof headlamp that weighs this little and simultaneously keeps the path so well lit? The seperation of the battery pack is brilliant, both for preserving battery life by keeping it warm, and because of how light the lamp feels atop your head in comparison with a typical light boasting that kind of duration. I can sleep wearing it if I want to, sans a bulky plastic box driving into the back of my head. It's got a plethora of options available from the push of the single top button, so you can shed whatever kind of light you want regarding the current tempo without doing any dancing in the dark just to find it. I almost bought the regular icon, but for ten bucks more, the features offered far more incentive than this guy could hope to pass up.

I bought this because I have used a number of other brands and types over the years and all have had weaker lamps - of course lamps have been evolving for the better but this one really shines through (no pun intended). I use it hunting and camping mainly but have used it around the house when I needed more light than the older ones that are now in my tool chest.I would recommend this one to anyone just as a headlamp in general but esp to ones that deal with extreme temps.Pros: Really bright (especially the main light) and adjustable brightness when you don't need full-on to save batteries.I hunt in the winter and the battery pack can be worn inside the clothing (jacket) to keep it warm which is simply outstanding - again to save batteries and allow them to work well in cold temps. The batteries last a long time.Red LEDs are nice and bright - I use them a lot to hike out to the stand in the dark in the morning.Red lights can also be turned on first so it doesn't ruin your night vision and the critters don't see your location outright.You can lock out the button so it won't accidentally turn on in your pack and waste the batteries.Great value for the price - there are others more expensive that I considered but I like the balance on this one.Cons: The battery pack is a bit heavy but that is by design for the Polar version. It balances okay on the opposite side of the light when it is on your head and can be worn in the sling if you don't like it on your head. I got used to the extra weight on my head quickly and don't even notice it now - it's really not bad.The instructions weren't written all that well (par for the course for most things these days). You may have to do a bit of fiddling with the light while reading them to understand what they are trying to say. The little insert with the switch instructions is the most helpful. I made an extra copy, cut it out, and laminated it to put in the battery pack just in case I need a reminder.

Haven't taken it out of the house yet, but I'm still blown away by its functionality and ease of use. The battery pack is built solidly and I like that it is separate from the headlamp unit. There are several light modes and all are easy to use once you read the instructions. Everything about it is quality, and I know it will serve me well, especially based on the other reviews I've read.

Es gab nur wenig Rezensionen zu dieser Lampe und nur für den Typ mit dem Akkufach am Kompfband. Ich fand die Version mit abgesetzter Akkutasche besser wegen das leichteren Gewichts am Kopf, da hier nurmehr der Strahler selbst mit den Gummibändern und zwei Halterchen für das Kabel am Kopf bleibt. Das Gewicht der Einheit mit dem Kabel bis zum Schraub/Steckverbinder im Kabel beträgt 103 Gramm. Ich hab es ausprobiert, selbst wildeste Eskapaden übersteht die Lampe am Kopf, ohne dass sie herunterfällt. Die Verstellschnallen lassen sich fein einstellen und man sie so fixieren, wie einem die Zugkraft der Bänder noch angenehm ist. Sie rutschen nicht durch. Was auf dem Foto und auch in der Beschreibung nicht erkennbar war: Die Lampe hat am Befestigungspunkt ein Gelenk und läßt sich damit genau die benötigte Gradzahl nach unten schwenken, es gibt eine feine Rastung, die das Gewicht des Lampenkörpers locker hält. Das Vorderteil des Lampenkörpers ist aus Kunststoff und die Austrittsscheibe ist leicht zurückversetzt, so daß weniger Gefahr besteht, dass sie zerkratzt werden könnte.Wasserdichtheit habe ich noch nicht getestet, aber die Lampe wird mit zum Segeln (Salzwasser) gehen. Ich werde berichten.Die Leuchtmodi sind absolut praxisgerecht und die Lampe ist sehr leicht zu bedienen. Ich hab erst den Rot-Modus nicht zum Leuchten bekommen. Da gab es aber einen kleinen Zettel, der an der Lampe befestigt, so daß man zwangsweise drüber stolpert. Für Rot muss man die einzige Bedientaste einfach 3 s lang festhalten.Lang für 6 s drücken sperrt die Bedienung im "Aus"-Modus. Auf gleiche Weise kehrt Sie wieder zur Funktion zurück. Einmal gemacht kann man das intuitiv,Toll ist, dass das Festhalten der Taste in jedem einzelnen Modus dazu führt, dass stufenlos gedimmt wird. Das klappt auch bei Rot-Licht. Bei der Helligkeit der Modi ist meiner Meinung nach diese Funktion für ernsthaftes Arbeiten auch unerläßlich, um nicht geblendet zu werden. Besonders die High Power LED in der Mitte ist wirklich der Hammer, das braucht man nur für rasante Sportarten in absoluter Finsternis (Rad auf Waldwegen bei Dunkelheit). Deswegen ist die Dimmfunktion hier echt klasse.Das abgesetzte Batteriefach ist mit Dichtungen versehen und mit einem Knebelverschluß. Sieht erst mal vertrauenerweckend aus. Da das Kabel lang genug ist, wird dieses aber ohnehin unter der Regenjacke oder im Rucksack transportiert und wird wohl nicht so schnell seine Dichtheit beweisen müssen, wie der Lampenkopf.Die Lieferung umfasste auch einen Satz Alkalibatterien.Zu erwähnen ist noch der mit einer metallenen Rändelmutter versehene Steckverbinder zwischen Batteriefach und Leuchtenkabel, der in der Nähe des Batteriefachs angebracht ist, so daß man das Kabel durch Durchführungen für MP3-Player in Jacken und Rücksäcken durchfädeln kann. Die Räündelmutter erzeugt den Anpressdruck, der nötig sein sollte, um Dichtheit herzustellen.Fazit: Ich bin echt begeistert, eine tolle Lampe mit herausragenden Einstellmöglichkeiten, geringem Gewicht und kleiner Baugröße, vielen Leuchtmodi inklusive Rot- und Blinklicht und voller, stufenloser Dimmbarkeit in sämtlichen Dauerlicht-Modi, auch im Rotlicht. Dazu IPx7 Dichtheit. (Untertauchen für 15 min auf 1 m Tiefe) Die Helligkeit in stärkster Stufe wird nur noch durch meine 900 Lumen-Radlampe getoppt und ist somit wirklich ausreichend.Sollte die Lampe aufgeben wegen unzureichender Dichtheit, werde ich berichten.

Die Stirnlampe leistet schon lange gute Dienste, eher im Outdoorbereich, da sie so weit und hell scheint. Für den Innenbereich ist das schon zu viel. Sie ist beim Wandern gut geeignet, um sich auch in der Dunkelheit zu orientieren. Eine kleinere Black Diamond, die die Akkus mit im Gehäuse hat, ist fast jeden Tag im Einsatz als Nachtlicht oder Bastellampe etc.Wie ich in der Rezension zum Akkupack XTPower® MP-10000 Powerbank geschrieben habe, ist das Anschlusskabel dieser Lampe kompatibel zu dem Spiralkabeladapter, der dem Akkupack fuer die Mobilfunkgeräte beiliegt. Das bedeutet, man kann die Lampe an dem Akkupack betreiben (5 Volt USB) und hat so eine viel größere Kapazität zur Verfügung. Die Lampe leuchtet also viel länger als mit dem originalen Pack von Black Diamond und man kann parallel auch noch andere Geräte (Mobiltelefon, GPS, etc) mit dem Pack versorgen.

Un poco pesada. Pero robusta y con gran cantidad de autonomía. 200 lúmenes más que suficiente. Y lo mejor es resistente al agua

Die Icon Polar bekommt von mir volle Punktzahl.Zwar ist es relativ fummelig mit dem Stromkabel und dem Tragegurt zu dem externen Batteriefach, so dass doch einiges an einem rumbaumelt, aber das lasse ich nicht negativ in die Bewertung einfließen, denn das Wichtigste ist ja das Licht, also Leuchtweite, Lichtkegel, Leuchtdauer und Handling. Und das ist einfach super. Das Licht ist in der hellsten Stufe (stufenlos dimmbar, sowie verschiedene Leuchtmodi, mit der großen Leuchte oder den kleinen LED, in weißem oder rotem Licht), so dass je nach Anwendung auch sehr lange Batteriehaltbarkeit erreicht wird. Mit dem Mountainbike lässt sich auf jeden Fall der Weg gut ausleuchten, wenn man in die Dunkelheit kommt. Ebenso sehr gutes Licht für Reparaturen, bei denen sonst keine Lichtquelle zur Verfügung steht, es gibt keine störenden Schatten.Gut ist auch die Bedienung, mit dünnen Handschuhen lässt sich die Lampe entsprechend ein- um- und ausschalten.Ganz wichtig und positiv ist auch die Arretierung, sie ist ausreichend straff, so dass sich beim Gehen und Laufen die Lampenneigung nicht verändert. Hier ist auch der große Vorteil, dass die Batterien nicht in der Lampe sondern in einem externen Batteriefach untergebracht sind.

Die Lampe ist wirklich sehr gut. Durch das abnehmbaren Batteriefach ist sie auch sehr gut zum Joggen, Segeln und Fahrradfahren geeignet. Wasserdicht ist sie wirklich, aber ich habe sie auch nur kurz und nicht tiefer als einen Meter im Salzwasser gehabt. Nach dem Einsatz habe sie mal schnell mit Süßwasser abgespült. Seit einem halben Jahr nutze ich sie zum Teil wirklich intensiv. Die Batterien halten wirklich locker eine Woche und das Rotlicht ist beim Kartenlesen einfach super.Kurz um DIE LAMPE IST IHR GELD 💰 WERT
