The Best Gifts Come From the Heart or It is More Blessed to Give than to Receive
"The Three Gifts of Christmas" is a 11 ¼ inch by 8 ¾ inch thirty-one page children's Christmas Picture book. The book is beautifully illustrated by Preston McDaniels in a semi-cartoon style. Every other page is a full color, full -page illustration. The text pages also have a small illustration on them. This book includes a wonderful audio book CD.In our growing materialistic society our children are becoming more ungrateful. This, sometimes becomes more evident at Christmas time. This book tells the story of a princess who is given many gifts at Christmas time, so many in fact that she keeps asking if there are any more without appreciation for the ones she just opened. The King and Queen are deeply concerned about the ungratefulness of their daughter and the fact that she forgot the true meaning of Christmas. The next year they decreed that there would be only three gifts given to the princess - each gift as precious as the princess is to her parents. The princess does something wonderful with the three very precious gifts that shows that she rediscovered the true meaning of Christmas and gift giving - the best gifts come from the heart and that it is more blessed to give than to receive. If you are looking for a book that teaches children to be more appreciative of the gifts they receive at Christmas and "It is more blessed to give than receive, then this is the book for you."

Heartwarming and Perfect
I purchased this book because our nearly-three-year-old daughter has taken a sudden interest in princesses. I'm a tomboy through and through so this is all new territory for me. I was seeking a Christmas story that would interest our daughter and this one caught my eye. A princess book I might actually be able to stomach AND it's about Christmas? I figured we'd at least give it a try.Oh my word.McDaniels' watercolor illustrations are fresh and delightful but what impressed me most was the story. Ms. Bishop artfully weaves a fairy tale worthy of any princess storybook... but one that hits home and ever so gently reminds us of Christ and His story during this time of rushing and selfishness that has become such a part of Christmas in the US.My eyes filled with tears as the princess and her family shared a new (to them) way of celebrating Christmas. Their gifts are limited, but chosen with care. They all learn, together, that even the most precious of gifts becomes even more so when shared.Merry Christmas.

for my little girls
A wonderful, timeless tale to teach my daughters the beauty of giving. It is so easy for kids to have the "gimmes " around Christmas time when all they hear is "be good or else Santa won't bring you any gifts." This is a well written and beautifully illustrated book. I bought it because we loved the author's book, _The Princess and the Kiss_… I think ages 4 and up can appreciate this story, but will appeal to girls 10+ as well. We will definitely be reading this over and over, especially at Christmas time.

Beautiful book on sacrificial giving!
This is SUCH a great book about sacrificial giving, and perfect for my daughters and nieces for Christmas! It’s definitely written for children ages 4-5 and up; my three year old can’t always sit through this yet, but my six year old LOVES this book. The included book on cd is a bonus!

Excellent Book!
Intriguing book for ages 7 and up that focuses on giving at Christmas rather than getting. Beautifully follows a little girl and the decisions she and her parents make and the lessons she learns. I love that the CD is there too. My kids like to follow along while it's being read. Good quality CD as well.

Great book to teach value of giving around Christmastime
My daughter listened to the CD and read along many times this Christmas season. The lesson is to be thankful for people and not necessarily material things.

Self-less lesson for Christmas
This story does a wonderful job of teaching children (and me too!) selflessness at a time of the year that's usually all about me!!! Very touching and beautifully illustrated. All of my children (9, 6, 4, 2) loved it.
