Camellias Crowder Peas, 16 OZ

I bought this 1 pound bag months ago and finally got around to cooking them (with just water and Better-than-Bullion organic vegetable - no need to soak, and ready in about an hour), and they were delicious, brought back memories of childhood in the South. They are similar to black eyed peas, but smaller, firmer and tastier.I wanted to order more, but the 1 pound bags are not available now, so after some hesitation (will we ever be able to eat 25 pounds of peas?), I bought the 25 pound bag. Glad I did. I use them in various recipes as well as just eating them on their own (I like a plate with these peas, kale, and tomatoes, or just a bowl of peas, as-is, or flavored like chili). I cook them in 1-pound batches (a pound makes a big pot of peas when cooked), and if we can't finish a batch in a couple of days, I freeze the leftovers in portion sizes so I can always conveniently add them to a meal. They are as versatile as they are delicious.And, since we are eating less meat to reduce our cholesterol, these provide needed protein (12 grams per serving) with no cholesterol. Delicious and healthy too!

Product is great, had some pea skins without pea so presentation wasn't great. The box was damaged in shipment because the product was not packed correctly, no protection at all - this may have caused the pea damage.

These crowder peas are absolutely delicious. They are a tradition in my family, and only one person ever fixed them. I cooked and served them for the first time on Thanksgiving and they were a big hit. I actually fixed two bags in crockpot with cut smoked turkey legs, onions, and cajun seasoning. They are very fresh and taste as good as those from garden or farmers market. I have purchased two more bags to have on hand when I need a beans option for my weight loss plan. Highly recommended!

Would give it 10 stars if I could!A portion of the contents were immediately used the day they arrived, to make what became hands-down, the best Hoppin' John for New Years 2016 (according to my family) that I have ever attempted! The beans were very flavorful (their taste only hinting at being related to their blackeye-pea cousins), were quick cooking, and made for a satisfying meal cooked with "gold rice" and the traditional seasonings. Could not stop "taste-testing" them from the pot. Will definitely purchase again!

Doesn’t taste like crowder peas.
