Q: How heavy is this please?

It’s just under 1kg - not as heavy as my previous dryer. I find it v manageable.

Q: Regarding the heat sensor, i've never seen a light to show its on. does it come on instantly when activated? worried i have a dud. thanks

Mine does come on as soon as I press the button, it is a blue light on the top of the hairdryer and stays on even after being turned off and then back on again

Yes. If the diffuser is held close to your scalp, it will improve the volume of your hair. I have very fine, straight shoulder length hair and it adds volume for me
