Great homekit device
This product was my first entry into homekit and home automation. I had used it off and on for a bit and it seemed to work fine, but I had a problem with it about a week or two ago after having owned it for 9 months. I was not able to maintain a connection for more than 20 minutes at a time. I figured I had nothing to lose by contacting support and to my surprise they offered to RMA the product. I did some more experimenting and realized there might have been additional interference in the room. I rearranged some things and it started staying connected again. I feel the unit is great, but the customer service is excellent. I would gladly purchase from this company again. As far as the unit goes I found the app pretty easy to use although with IOS 10 you can now use the home app to pair it if you prefer. I have a lamp currently plugged into this and use siri to turn it on when needed. I think that is a pretty cool feature. My only hope is that a more affordable version of this outlet becomes available so I could add more units throughout my house.

Good product but the app is lacking.
I initially had terrible connectivity issues and had to reset the device every couple of days. Connect sense released a firmware update on 1/13/16 that seems to have solved all the issues I initially had. Now the device works well. I just wish that the two outlets would show up separately in home kit apps outside of the ConnectSense app. The app is somewhat unstable and I wish it offered a widget for controlling the devices.

Great when it works, but too many reliability/connection issues
Like other reviewers have stated, this outlet is amazing when it works, but it does not hold a reliable connection. I bought this as a Christmas present for my non-tech savvy parents to replace a couple of their out-dated plugin timers. Before giving it to them, I decided to test it out over about 1 week to make sure it was easy enough for them to use. After a week of usage, I found that I could only control the outlet through the app half of the time. Resetting the outlet would fix the issue, but you shouldn't have to reset something every 1-2 days. Yes, you can control this outlet while away from home as long as you have an Apple TV (3rd gen or later) in your home, which is one of this outlet's biggest appeals. It's fantastic to be able to turn lamps on and off using your phone away from home, but that's if it's working. This outlet and its app have too many bugs the company hasn't worked out yet.Aside from not holding a reliable connection, the app keeps prompting me with a firmware update for the outlet, but after the "updating firmware..." box disappears, the app keeps saying that there is a pending firmware update (I'm on firmware version 2.0.1). The issue is present on both my iPhone and iPad apps. I have reset the outlet multiple times throughout the week, but the issue keeps occurring. I have also searched everywhere online to find what is the most current firmware version, but the only thing I have seen is one reviewer stating that the ConnectSense team told him that an update is "coming shortly" to fix the connection issues. I wish they would update their company's website to let customers know what the latest firmware version is because I have no idea if my outlet is up-to-date or not.An $80 outlet is a bit pricey to have the convenience of controlling a couple of lamps while away from home. It would be worth it to me if this outlet worked even 80-90% of the time. Unfortunately it works about 50% of the time so I am considering returning it to save my parents from the headaches if an update does not fix the issue within the next week.EDIT (1/6/16): No real answers from the company as to when the fix will be released. Like another reviewer said, this product should have stayed in beta before releasing at a premium price. I returned the two outlets that I bought for my parents as they just didn't work. I bought a Wink Hub and 2 Lutron Caseta lamp dimmers instead. Glad to report that I have had zero reliability issues with controlling my lights from home or remotely. My only complaint about Wink is that there is a 2-3 second delay for the light to turn on when using the Wink app. The Connectsense was instantaneous when I used it, but since it couldn't hold a connection most of the time I'll take the slight delay with Wink over the reliability issues of ConnectSense.Another thing to note, the Wink app is not HomeKit compatible, meaning you can't use Siri to control things. One thing I do like better about the Wink app is that you can add widgets to control things through the drop-down notification menu on your phone. The ConnectSense app does not have this feature. For all practical purposes, it's much faster to use swipe down on your phone's screen and tap a widget than to unlock your phone, say "Hey Siri", wait for Siri to activate, and then tell her to turn the lights on.

Not ready for primetime - should have stayed in beta...
I absolutely loved this thing - for the first 15 minutes. It connected quickly and easily and the app, although it lacked any kind of user guide, was pretty easy to use. I easily invited my wife and set the app up on her phone and we were both able to control the outlets like a champ. We had a small christmas decoration plugged into the bottom and a small CFL lamp plugged into the top. When we unplugged the bottom lamp, the top lamp suddenly turned on and the outlet went offline. I reset it according to instructions and was able to reconnect with it, but there was absolutely nothing I could do to get my wife's app to reconnect. I tried reinviting her, deleting the app off her phone, deleting the app of both phones and resetting the outlet - basically starting over from scratch - and nothing worked. I could connect to it, but my wife never received an invitation other than the one I sent at the very beginning. I searched the ConnectSense website for some sort of user guide, but all they have is an FAQ section that only offers very brief answers to very simple questions; it was no help at all. I really wanted this thing to work because I want to control some lights when I go on vacation, so I decided to fill out a request for help. A short time later I left home and realized that hey, I can control my garage doors with my smartphone. Does Chamberlain make any kind of smart outlet? And it turns out that yes, they do (it's here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NTEB7W?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00). I ordered it, cancelled my service request with ConnectSense, deleted the app off my phone, and requested a return from Amazon.I haven't received the Chamberlain product yet, but I do know that I'll lose the ability to control my lights via Siri. But to me that's more of a gimmick than a necessity so I don't really care. What I do know is that in the two years I've had the Chamberlain MyQ device I've never had it go offline and never had a problem connecting to it remotely no matter where I am. ConnectSense claims that you can connect remotely as long as you have an acceptable Apple TV and iPhone, which I do, but their website doesn't tell you how to set it up and the outlet didn't function properly long enough for me to try to figure it out myself.Bottom line: The ConnectSense outlet is a good idea, but it seems to me like they should have stayed in beta testing a little longer before going public with it. When you spend $80 for something like this you expect quality, not bugs. Now to be fair, I didn't give them a chance to try to resolve my problem, which is the ONLY reason they get two stars instead of one. I really would NOT recommend this product to anybody. The reason why I didn't give them a chance to address my problem is because I started wondering if their fix would work and how long it would be before the outlet dropped offline again (based on other reviews that happens a lot). Then I asked myself if I could see me putting three or four of these in my house at $80 a pop. And let's say I had three of them and one went offline; would I have to reset the entire crop of devices and set the app up all over again? Would I lose the ability to control them all if one dropped offline? The risk definitely outweighed the potential reward, and I decided to return the product and give Chamberlain the chance to impress me once again.

Me gusto
