Concise and packed with ideas for teachers of ESL students
Highly recommended for teachers of students of English as a Second Language, especially those, like myself, who casually assumed that students should somehow manage to gain a vocabulary of 2,000 words on their own, without help from the teacher in the classroom. This book is full on insights as well as mentions of online sources. A definite read for those who teach English and for those who are struggling to learn Japanese, too.

easy to read and totally worth it
A very comprehensive but concise text, it's easy to read in an afternoon and totally worth it. Nation clearly explains theory and research relating to vocabulary teaching and learning, and he also describes a huge variety of successful learning strategies, techniques and activities. I think the book is pitched just right: it's serious and academic and yet also extremely practical and easy to read. I'm sure my teaching will improve and know I'll be referring to it again and again.
