Lamy Studio Piano Black with medium gold Nib
First of all picked this up for a stupid low price as the retailer must have been clearing stock. I was slightly apprehensive as my experience with German nibs is that they tend to run a size larger than advertised (Pelikan for example). This Lamy medium is just that and such an incredibly smooth writer, though not slippery. Great weight and balance too. This came in a nice gift box with instructions, guarantee card, 5 Lamy blue cartridges and a converter that I wasn’t expecting.I did have trouble with the pen hard starting (no ink on paper during the first stroke or two). I’m not sure if the quick soak of the nib section in warm water or the change to the converter using Pelikan ink solved it but either way the pen is now a dream to use.Love the writing experience, the simple styling and the finish. The cap closure doesn’t feel very positive but it’s actually secure.I’m not sure about the steel nib versions in this range but Lamy has a great reputation in that regard. My recommendation though is look out for the Gold nibbled Studio pens as they are absolutely worth the ‘Ticket price” and even more enticing when reduced.

a good as usual
this is my second studio pen, replacing the first after the best part of eight years use as my main daily pen. eventually the lid lost its click and it was time to replace.this one is a matt finish compared to the first one which was gloss, otherwise the same as was and its a great pen to use, cheap enough to afford to lose or drop (not that i have), much nicer to write with than a biro..

Lovely pen to look at and use....
This is a fantastic pen for the price; the engineering really is top notch with a nice flow of ink coming from the nib right from the outset. It feels well balanced when posted, it also looks and feels very nice in my hand. I find I can write for hours with it without fatigue setting in - the eyes give out long before cramp sets in! While not overly heavy, it's more weighty than you might expect for what is a trim and relatively thin pen compared to some of its chunkier cousins, to me this tends to reinforce the fact that it's a quality, well engineered item which should last for years. The fact that the nibs are interchangeable opens up a whole new world of experimentation, should you be interested in going down that route. This has quickly become my every day use pen at work; it's an absolute pleasure to use and at this price it wouldn't be the end of the world if it got lost or broken. Be aware that as opposed to what some earlier posts suggest it comes with one blue ink cartridge only, you will have to buy the Z26 cartridge converter separately.Finishing on a bit of a sour note I was a little miffed about the box it arrived in, as opposed to the image in the listing it's a thin cardboard box, not much bigger than the pen itself (see photo). The box was reminiscent of the type that the freebie pens we hand out at work are packaged in. There were no instructions or warranty information leaflets inside; the box contents amounted to just the pen and an ink cartridge. While this obviously isn't a premium fountain pen, it's not an overly cheap one either - a £5 Parker would come in a nice presentation case. While nowhere near enough to drop a star, you should be aware of this if you are e.g. buying it as a present.

Not black purple just black …
Lovely pen. Lamy are one of my favourites for all pens, especially fountain pens. I bought this because of the colour. Black Purple sounded interesting. Don’t buy it thinking it’s a special colour, it’s not, it’s plain old black. So I knocked a star off because better descriptions would mean less returns. Now to talk about the pen. Its lovely and, even though it’s not black purple, I’m keeping it. I got B because I already have the same one in different colours in EF, F, & M. The nib writes smooth and the ink flows nicely.I would have loved a black purple version. But, rather than polute the earth more by returning it back to the US (I’m sure that’s where it was despatched from), I’ll keep it. Amazon, if you’re reading this, change the description to black or send out the right colour please.

Wonderful
Wonderful Pen oozing quality, nice weight, cap posts well. I opted for the medium nib and it dialled in in a couple of days, very smooth. Using Waterman black ink at the moment and just on the right side of wet. Have left it unposted for hours and worked perfectly straight away. Quickly became my daily driver. Seen reviews were people mentioned the grip section was slippery, while it is definitely not as secure as the safari triangular grip I still find it comfortable. Wonderful quality pen at this price bracket.

Good pen for writing with flawed body
I really like the smoothness of the nib. My only issue is this pen develops scratch marks near the clip of the pen - this looks pretty bad on Black colored body. My wife and I ordered 2 pens for us and this issue has happened in both, only after 2 months of gentle use.

Great pen
I have six fountain pens—not a huge collection, but I have a decent variety in terms of size, weight, etc. This is by far my favorite of them all. The design is beautiful and sleek, and the weight and balance are perfect. I have a couple of other Lamy pens (vista and safari), but I think this is the best of the bunch. The only minor criticism I have is that if your hands get even a little bit sweaty the stainless steel grip can be a bit slippery since there is really no contour of any sort to compensate for greater control. That said, I personally like the lack of the contoured grip as my other Lamy pens force me to grip them in a slightly uncomfortable way. This is generally not a problem, and not enough for me to lower my rating, but something some folks might want to be aware of.
