Starling Games Everdell: Pearlbrook (Collector's Edition)

This is the english version of the collector's item! It's so much fun and the art is beautiful! Even the box is amazing, I always set it upright on the table when we are playing. All the extra meeples give extra feeling and vibe within the game, want to be platypus, maybe the cute axolotl or a furret? Yes, it's a hard choice when it's all so cute. The new cards blend in amazing and there is no problem with deck bloat. We still get almost a full city every time, it's just more diverse every time we play it.Pearlbrook is a great addition to the base game, the pearls are pretty and a joy to collect. Also the 3D wonders look good. You usually want one wonder and maybe an adornment card. But you also want to build your city! There are so many choices to be made. These adornment cards are two unique cards every player get; they have different properties and can form your strategy. Sometimes i think the most expensive wonder is the best option, while in the end it might not have been that way or vice versa.I'd say this is the best expansion for casual gamers. Instead of having negative weather as in Spirecrest that limits your playability and emphasizes the need for knowledge of cards in the deck. Pearlbrook opens the game up with more choices and more resources to choose from. Sometimes you have 3 or 4 options to choose from, get the biggest wonder, or a smaller one and build a castle, or even smaller wonder and build more and get an adornment card! Sometimes my brains make overtime just for the sake of wanting the most points.This game is an absolute hit for me and my wife. The art, the gameplay, it makes us happy, it's like playing in a fairytale.We combine Pearlbrook with a dutch standard game, as it's not available in Dutch. It combines perfectly fine! I recommend it both for english players, but also for other languages.

We love the base game & this is a great expansion to it, thoroughly enjoyed playing it.

I have the standard edition of Pearlbrook. We love to get new critters and new components for Everdell. In our house it is the most played board game and we all thoroughly enjoy it.Pearlbrook unfortunately does not really enhance the gameplay. If anything it detracts from the main objective. The introduction of pearls is a nice concept. You need these to complete the new Wonders. However the pearls are so difficult to collect you either focus on this solely and abandon your city or you completely ignore it and stick to playing your cards as normal.We played it a few times but we rarely add it to the base game now, we just use the extra critter type in the base game for some variety (we all love critters!)So £72 for this is just not worth it. Buy Spirecrest collectors instead.
