Very good but spend a bit more to get mid range phone
Honestly I am amazed. I had a battered iPhone 8 plus and not ready to upgrade as prices are unbelievable so waiting for the iPhone 12 to drop so iPhone 11 price becomes more reasonable. For the next few months I will be using the Xiaomi Redmi 9 64gb weird Grey colour. Totally missed no wireless charging but oh well. I am quite impressed with the phone for the money the only let down being the cameras are awful but actually usable but so terrible. The battery seems very good obviously it's massive I will buy a reverse cable so I can use this phone as a portable battery charger. Screen is clear and bright enough, auto brightness is a bit aggressive hopefully software updates will solve that. Not too keen on the rounded corners at the bottom and it looks like shadowing sometimes. It does slow down a bit here and there but £135 £27 over 5 months I can't complain the next phone I wanted was the Redmi Note 9 Pro but saw camera dust issues which are now resolved apparently but it's quite a step up in money £207 £41 over 5 months shame as I think that phone would provide what is missing from this one but never know I might buy a second hand one if I see one cheap. IR blaster is unusual but seems to work well can't complain about extra features. Provided case is a very good idea so you can use the phone straight away and get a good case later I don't like the charging flap on it probably will cut it off. I think I may have been changed back over to the Android side but need to try a true Mid level handset first this is very good but I wouldn't want to keep it for very long I want the basics like Wireless charging and a useful camera. This is good for kids and grandparents and occasional phone users but not heavy users. When I upgrade this will be passed down to kids as a media player or backup get someone out of trouble phone. Looking at all the mid range phones like Realme 6 etc they all seem to have their problems let's see how I feel about this in a couple of weeks have yet to use Bluetooth audio in the car and NFC paymentUpdate:Camera focus is not good Sainsbury's shopping app was barely usable, at the end to transfer to the till it kept snapping too quick but couldn't focus quick enough so failed luckily only had a few items. Halifax banking app cannot use the finger print sensor so frustrating having to type memorable password other apps are ok with it. Auto rotate getting frustrating have calibrated in developer settings but I think it's so aggressive because this phone is missing a gyro sensor or something.NFC works ok I hate the finger print on the back really wanted a side mounted one I can get by but it's a bit embarrassing wether it will work.I can drain this battery in a day easy not even gaming at all but have been using it more than usual being a new phone to me and trying to convince myself Android is worth a good try again after many years giving up on it.Forgot to mention Bluetooth quality is perfect and connects to cheapo Android touchscreen stereo in the car Alexa devices, Ring camera opens better and faster on Android but still a lot to be desired. The Screen is very good not sure if I read somewhere it is a simple 1080p Samsung screen but it is really nice no touch issues and responsive and good clear colour I use the smallest text size as I found it looked a bit blurry on the recommended level.Still craving that Note 9 Pro instead I thinkAnother update. NFC seems to be ok if you angle the phone correct some new pay machines the keypad is above the scanner so you need to turn the phone at an angle to get it close or it fails.Don't really take pictures much now as cannot rely on the camera not annoying me with how pathetic it is if something movesBattery greatWhen unlocking the phone sometimes it hangs with the constant app bar slightly enlarging and no icons it is happening more and more and is really annoying me now. When will Miui 12 be available which I hope will resolve this issue you cannot do anything while the phone decides to catch up.Getting fed up now. I don't take pics anymore as it always misses the shot I have a new kitten and kids and I can't use NFC reliably and I can't go to Sainsbury's and end my shop it's embarrassing now and I can't wait to get rid of it. Updates that eventually might come might fix some issues but I should be able to take a half decent pic instead you get unsuspecting pics that are blurred in all the wrong places. Gutted stuck with this usable annoying device

my 3rd Xiaomi phone - the best price/performance in 2020
In £150 price range nothing can beat Redmi 9 in mid-2020: upgraded from Redmi 6 to get NFC and better camera; still an excellent battery life (5000 mAh) and didn't notice lesser performance of MediaTek CPU. The camera quality is the last hurdle but you should be paying twice as much.

Disappointed in the battery
Great phone the camera is superb such shame about the battery. Although it's a large battery it doesn't really last long enough before the need to recharge. Fairly good value for money though, I would mention the sheerness if I knew what the hell Amazon meant by it 😂😂 Although Sheerness in Kent is lovely

Unbelievable phone for the price
Got this at £135 during limited offer period. It's an amazing phone for this price. It feels and looks like a flagship phone. These budget phones are getting so good now, there's no need to spend any more than £200 on a phone. Previously had a Moto G6 Play which cost £170 in 2018, so to get a much better phone for even less money in 2020 is brilliant.

Better, since January 2021!
#LATEST UPDATE. Now much faster, and smoother with MIUI 12 update, and RAM Booster; leaves room for SIGNAL(and WhatsApp, for a few "refuseniks",case now has option to decline location, and use of Metabytes information!) No more involuntary app updates! Why didn't it come with all these pluses, on MiUI 11? Phone ring tone is not loud enough outside, and no EXTERIOR ring setting; but speaker IS loud for roadside, windy conversations, if I make the call! Having looked note carefuly, XIAOMI have the edge on entry/mid-level phones, beating Huawei/HONOR and OPPO/OnePlus. As I have been able to uninstall apps I have not used, I cannot ignore them on the basis of not wanting MiUI, as some prefer to do. #Last update, with edits. This phone is fairly bloated. Having removed apps that are removable, inc. Netflix, and added 5 x Apps, inc AVIRA and VIVALDI, there is now up to 43% Ram left. #Previous update: I had the time to return to the phone, and found it required me to enter the password, which I could not do, as I never set up a password, opting just for the SIM PIN. So I used the AMAZON app customer service. A very knowledgeable, and patient, technician guided me through erasing all data and setting the phone up as I wanted, Inc privacy settings!# Previously.....Arrived undamaged. read the terms and conditions, which gave me quite a headache (really.) I bought this on PRIME Day, for the discount price, the review on GSMARENA, which states at the time of release, there was no better phone for spec and price; and due to Amazon's outstanding customer service, as well as the 2 years warranty (which Amazon can referee, if necessary.) So, the terms boil down to, literally, instructing you NOT to buy, or use, Xiaomi products - if you are not willing to be constantly located, tracked, monitored, inspected & targeted for ads, and disagree with them trading ALL your information that they harvest from the phone! I did not want to seem unreasonable, and send it back without trying to set it up, so I put in a Spanish SIM card; as well as my region being Spain. Hey presto! I was able to do almost everything my little heart wanted to do, including deactivation of IMUI, which I found, online, can, on a whim(which updating phones have a lot of) lag your phone; as well as 'brick' it (presumably if offended by it's longevity and value for money!) So I will not update after warranty ends! I have a non-supported 2014 BLU(which only works with WiFi) and 2015 Microsoft 640xl(which still makes/accepts calls, texts, & navigates- though it has tried to self murder itself, 3 times, which I foiled by pulling it out of its case, apart, and removing the battery - I have never fallen out with them! In 2017 I bought an ASUS ZEN4Max 520(discounted, but still €159), Android 7; which became increasingly problematic when I updated to android 8.1 and worse with 8.1.1, in 2018; virtually died 3 months before the warranty was up, and repairs included a new battery and OS android 9. Since this upgrade, the ASUS has been in a war of attrition over reactivating apps I disabled, Inc maps, and repeatedly gives itself previously denied permissions; with Google assistant tormenting me(going as far as recording my voice without my permission and my cursing it, which appeared as text on my screen until I managed to disable Google!) So, getting back to the Xiaomi, before, hopefully, you lose interest. I made a catastrophic error in treating myself to the option of turning Google services off. Arrogant fool that I am! I thought I could install WhatsApp, which is a part of FB, without Play Store; as well the default browser ignoring me! I want WhatsApp and 🦆 DuckDuck browser - those, and making/ receiving calls/texts is all I want it for - to pass to the mrs, I have decided! I also have a ZTE Vita9, which only ever has given me 1 problem, in over 2 years - that I sorted myself, with a forum Search. The lesson I have learned with Xiaomi is that I will, in future, make sure I have a capable, and available, friend to set up any future non-Xiaomi phone. If you are, like myself, determined not to be tracked, protect your personal information and online activities, and gallery, from the US Military, Corporations, and Gov. agencies, AVOID Xiaomi! (But GDPR continues in Europe.)

I hate it
I bought it to develop mobile apps on it, and you'll be required to register with your phone number for a MI account to be able to use USB install. Absolutely ridiculous...
