Errol Flynn's first western and it is great
This was Errol Flynn's first western. He is as good with a six shooter as he was with a sword. He confronts lynch mobs , outlaws, and all that a law man could possibly encounter and takes them down with ease. The picture is in Technicolor and looks great. There are many great actors of the time in this movie and it added to the movie's hit at the box office. Something you may not know, Dodge City is the movie that inspired Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles". One other thing I love about this movie is the stage settings. It is among the best I have ever seen in a cow boy movie. This is a great movie and one you will watch often. By the way the end of the movie is wild and a great ending is always good. Just a hugely enjoyable movie made with great skill.

Beautiful release of a classic movie
Wow, oh wow! I have always loved this movie. It is one on the great movies that were released in 1939. The pairing of Errol Flynn and Olivia DeHavilland was a no-brainer. They recapture the same chemistry as in Captain Blood or the Adventures of Robin Hood. The story is more complex than most westerns of the era. What really sets this apart though, the transfer is the best yet for this feature. The DVD was good, but there were some scenes that appeared to be slightly out if convergence. This Blu-ray removes that small complaint. This disc comes with all the same features as the DVD. It does have Warner Bros. Night at the Movies format with cartoon, short, newsreel and trailer. The movie itself is a classic.

One of his best westerns- it set the standard for John Wayne type quality acting
If your even a casual fan of Errol F. - this is one movie not to miss. It has all elements to offer as a quality western even your kids can enjoy (with a little parental supervision). He can carry the lead role as well as any other big name cowboy round at time this movie hit the screens. Only a handful will survive the test of time - this is one of them. Now in Blue-Ray: its worth the price of admission. If you saw him in Robin Hood then your'e in for same treat in this movie.

Dodge 'em Bullets and Cattle, for sure.
"Dodge City," is one of numerous films released in 1939, yet one of the few westerns shot in technicolor of any studio. At the directing helm, Michael Curtiz, takes advantage of the sprawling-style western with every western staple: chases between rustlers/cowboys and horses/locomotives, an epic bar-room brawl, reckless youths (William Lundigan/Olivia de Havilland) and an untamed town with no sheriff. Errol Flynn, in his first western is supported by his pals(Alan Hale, Big boy Williams-real-life sidekick) and a host of villains (Victor Jory, Bruce Cabot) with a naughty dance girl (Ann Sheridan) thrown into the mix. Even Henry Travers (the angel in "Its A Wonderful Life") lends his charm to this mix of lawlessness. Curtiz moves this western speedily along highlighted by equally impressive technicolor photography throughout (shot in Modesto, California in places) which catches the blush on de Havilland's cheeks as well as the flowing rivers against banking clouds in pre-polluted glory. It is fun, exciting and romantic, pairing her gain with Errol again, sometimes with familiar exchanges a la "Adventures of Robin Hood" of the same year. Even the old sod-buster, Ward Bond, with few lines enjoys himself amidst this ocean of tossed cowboys. Time and again Flynn butts heads with Bruce Cabot, leading to an exciting climax aboard a burning train in its satisfying finale. The special features are quite interesting, including color footage of most of the Warner lot celebrating its debut in Dodge city itself. This film is memorable for its technicolor first-class treatment of the western genre and for re-teaming Flynn with the alluring de Havilland, opening the door for other ambitious westerns to come.

ITS A BIG WINNER ON BLURAY
A hoot'n good time with awesome Errol and a stellar cast make this an enormously enjoyable BluRay. Huge difference from the regular style DVD and a bargain to boot with much more detail even in shadows and better contrast and vivid images. Don't hesitate its a winner all the way.

Errol Flynn Western. Bravo!
You have a movie with Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland you can't go wrong. I've had this movie and CD several times and through moving I've lost it or whatever. Now that I can have it on Prime on my phone or wherever. I love it even more. Recommend all over old Flynn movies with Olivia de Havilland. And pick and choose other Errol Flynn movies.

Errol Flynn was an excellent actor. All his movies are really great to watch. No swearing, no gory messes to watch and no naked people running around.

Cowboy becomes lawman and cleans up Dodge City...
(3.5 stars) Errol Flynn could just as easily have been named Errol Flair. He had that something special, a fun, charming quality that transferred well on film. This Western movie has a mix of humor and drama, but I wouldn't call it high drama. I have a few issues with its occasional lack of realism (but remember, it's Hollywood). A good middle of the road by the numbers movie.
