I received my product and it wasn’t turning on. I initially thought the battery is not charged, so I’ve left in on charge for about a day - Plugged the battery into the fish cleaner and still no power! I don’t know whether they sent me a defective fish cleaner, battery or charging cable itself but at the moment I am unable to use it.

First of all, I haven't tried this on a whole fish, but I imagine it would be a lot better. I used this on fish cuts, like salmon fillets, and the result was honestly not very good. This was quite heavy and quite powerful, I'm just not sure if it's suitable at all for fish that isn't whole, because when I used it, it really did more harm to the fish than I otherwise would have done if I did it manually. Sure, it was faster, but I'm not sure it was worth it. The meat was "butchered" in a sense because the skin suffered more damage than it needed to. The scales also weren't entirely clean and I had to gently go round with a knife the last few around the edges, because you definitely do not want this to operate while it's near the meat. Chunky and hefty, so it feels like it had a whole fish in mind, not fish fillets. This means for the average household buying fish from the supermarket, it might not be very good. Rechargeable, so it's great because battery operated products that aren't rechargeable are just obsolete now, since rechargeable batteries are so prominent. Currently priced at £35.00 (£32.90 with the 6% off voucher) I think I expected more from this, because as it is now, although manually does it with a knife takes more time, it leaves the fish more intact as well. Maybe I'll figure out a way to use this gently on fillets, but until then, I'm not convinced.

My first thoughts when I opened the plain brown box was does this fish scaling device need to be so big. Its a huge gadget and its very heavy. It was too heavy for me to hold with weak arms so it didn't even get off first base. It's easy to activate though with the big lever on the side and it runs on rechargable batteries which are supplied. The blades spin super fast so I'd say it could be lethal in the wrong hands and I'd be using it with chain mail gloves on. If you take the scale off fish this could be the gadget for you but there are cheaper alternatives out there. Overall its not for me due to the size and weight but will probably be perfect for others as there's nothing wrong with the quality at all.

I tried this to scale slot size red drum. Most just skin them but I leave skin on to hold the meat together when frying. This will knock the scales off so fast its crazy and not hurt the skin or meat. It works best for me to go from the gills to the tail instead of normal direction used with a manual scaler. I also insert the battery so contacts won't connect for storage. The blades will do some damage if picked up by the wrong person so use this wisely.

It is the type of instrument I really wanted. I find it extremely useful.
