Good Intermediate Rig
Bought this for some outdoor adventuring at my ranch in New Mexico. I take this back into the juniper forest and have found all sorts of interesting things. My favorite was the half-buried mule shoe, as shown. I have also found very old heavy equipment parts, a 1940's era thermos bottle, and a small meteorite (about a 1/4in across). Depths are usually shallow, although I found a mysterious steel pipe buried about 8 inches down in the driveway. After careful excavation, it turned out to be some random piece of pipe. I would never have known it was there without this detector, plus it helped me scour a work area for sharp metals pieces, after some construction work.I've been using this for over a year and I'm still on the first battery! Okay, I don't use it EVERY day, but I am amazed at the battery life.Be sure to add a hand-held detector. The Gold Bug gets one pretty close to the target, but the hand-held detector zeroes in. If it's small, one could really miss something good, using only the Gold Bug.Haven't found any gold nuggets yet, but if they're out there, this device will probably find it. Not flakes, though. It would probably take a small nugget to get a solid signal worth digging for.Great product; good value. Happy customer!

Check the condition of the box and contents when you get it.
This is a reorder as my 10" coil was not in the box in the previous order. When I received the first detector and opened the box it looked like it had just been thrown into the box and sealed. The instruction book was not wrapped, the detector was not wrapped like it should have been. There were places in the corners where the detector stems/rods should have been place in but weren't. It was obvious the detector was a return when it was supposed to be a new in the box detector. The little tab that had to be pulled out to enable the battery to operate was not in the detector head. This all told me that it seemed to be a return from a previous purchaser. I returned that one due to be an incomplete order since the coil was missing. I received the new detector yesterday (20th of Feb) and as soon as I opened the box, I could tell it was in fact a new detector as everything was wrapped in a plastic bag that should have been. The rods were in the slots made for them to sit in too. The pull-tab was still intact too. Hey, I did get what I actually ordered. Kudos to the shipper for sending the correct items this time. So, take my advice ladies and gentlemen. If you order something from Amazon carefully examine the contents and how they have been packed. It your order looks like it was just dumped into the box, more than likely it is a return. This order was filled by the one down in Plainfield Indiana. I never had trouble with orders from Amazon until this order. Now, the detector will be a learning curve for me since I was used to the Minelab Explorer II. Damned good machine but it would not detect gold. So, I bought the Fisher Gold Bug Pro. The book seems to be something that a child could set up after the book is read. Now, if the weather would stop snowing and mother nature would make everything warm up and dry, I will be out learning this detector.Good Luck to you all.
