Just OK
I am not certain what all the rave reviews are about. I read the whole book and overall enjoyed it. It was a fun story, but unrealistic. Many books that I love are unrealistic, which makes them more exciting, so this isn't a total negative. What bothered me more was that the writing was just ok. I was conscious of the writing, which was a distraction. I liked the main character, Todd, but felt that the author didn't tell us enough about who he was other than what he did in this story. As I said, I liked it enough to read it all the way through and it is overall an enjoyable read. I don't, however, believe it was a wonderful five star novel.

Not terrible
I actually expected more from this book. I know it was only .99 but I wanted more depth of character for Todd. He just seemed to go from one adventure to the next, never really getting into his head. The adventures were fun, but I felt shallow reading them, like there was something more I wanted from them.I also noticed that Todd seemed to become a tough guy in the space of about one day, after being a complete slacker. That don't jibe, even if you say maybe it was what he was made for.Regardless, it's a light read, you won't mind the story too much, and it's under a buck. What have you got to lose?

The Fall Guy Stands Tall
Finished THE FALL GUY, by Simon Wood. The story was fast pace and electric. I read very, very slowly, and I went through it in three days without even noticing. The story was a high octane thriller which pushes the petal down. There are shootings, feuds, jealousy, cars, drugs, guns, women, robberies, car chases, and everything else yo...u expect to find in the best movies. If this were a movie, I could see Jason Statham playing the part of the main character, Todd Collins. Our unlikely hero gets stuck in a situation after a little bump and run. The pace never lets up as our character is sent all around the country, from Texas to Seattle. My wife is reading it next, but if this is what I have to look forward to with my brand new Kindle, than I am very happy with my purchase.Thank you for writing a wonderful book, Simon.

Funny and witty
How can you not like a novel that surprises you and makes you smile while you're reading it? I won't talk about the story line, many reviewers have already done it quite adequately but I would like to mention that in my opinion the main elements that make this novel successfull are the writing itself and the diversity of the characters involved. It's a short book full of action and funny dialogues who remind me of some 50's films noirs. The lead character, Todd, is interesting because of the ways he adapts to every kind of situation, I can't help it but I keep seeing him as Robert Carlyle. However, the character I prefered was Black, I would have like to know more about him, maybe the author will bring him back someday!!! All in all, it is a very entertaining book.

Great book for a great cause!
Very entertaining read. Reminded me of Raymond Chandler with a sort of anti-hero feel. Easy to root for Todd even though he is far from the traditional hero. Lots of interesting twists and good pacing to keep you interested. Really enjoying Simon Wood! Can't wait to read more...And if you buy the eBook in January 2014, the proceeds are being donated by the author to a fellow author friend who is in need of assistance to cover medical bills for her husband. Great book for a great cause!

Disappointed b/c expected more after Paying The Piper
Had The Fall Guy been my first Simon Wood read, it would have been my last. It was entertaining enough to finish, but not to pick up another Simon Wood novel. It reads as if it were intended to lay the groundwork for a B-rated movie, a pseudo-comic suspense/action. After reading Simon Wood's Paying The Piper, I was anxious to dig into another one of his books. The author set a relatively high standard for himself with Paying The Piper. It was an excellent read; The Fall Guy is not. It is merely entertaining, and mildly so.

Wood Does it For Me Again
I like Simon Wood. I've read three of his books now and I'm yet to be disappointed. With Simon Wood, I'm guaranteed of a good read. The Fall Guy is a great read. From start to finish, the Fall Guy is gripping (except for a few pages far into the story that have little or no relationship to the rest of the story). Even then, The Fall Guy is quick to get back into gear and build up to a great climax.Nice job.

The Fall Guy
I found this quite an extra ordinary book and took some time to get used to the thought processes followed by the main proponent and the quite bizarre choices and behaviours that he made. Once I had suspended my belief and began to get used to his mixture of incompetence and immorality I began to enjoy the book slightly more. Some of the characterisation is quite rich and some of the story becomes funnier as the plot progresses.

Another excellent Simon Wood novel
This is the second Simon's Wood book that I have read and thoroughly enjoyed both.Really enjoyed the lead character, Todd Collins, one of life's losers who after a minor traffic incidents finds himself getting more and more enmeshed in desperate criminal activities.Very fast moving plot and good characterizations. Will certainly read more by this author.

No fall down here
At first I was disappointed that it was a relatively short story, but was not disappointed by the plot. What started out as a careless knock of another car went on to take Todd Collins on a journey he would never have imagined. Great read again by Simon Wood, he never disappoints and his plots are all so very different. Great for a bookworm like me.

Awful
The plot is SO unbelievable that I couldn't carry on reading! The clunky plot twists are too annoying. I switch off my critical mind when I want to read a bit of escapism, but this is just daft.

A jokey story of amateur criminals
The hero is a dropout who accidentally damages the Porsche belonging to a drug lord who forces him to commit crimes as a punishment and who eventually manages to turn the tables by becoming a criminal himself. Quite a good read but unbelievable.
