Four Nations
Aiming to provide a review of England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, it does concentrate on England and England's relationships with the other three. Perhaps this is inevitable since England dwarfs the other three by population and commerce, but it would have been good to see more on the other areas. There are some annoying mistakes (2002 edition) - such as referring to the Royal Ulster Constabulary in 1920 - which makes me wonder if I have read others without realising it.Still, very readable and good overview of the whole history of these two islands.

Brilliantly written
The Four Nations: A History of the United Kingdom is an informative and very enjoyable look at the history of the United Kingdom and Ireland. It deals with events right up to the modern day and the potential problems of devolution. Some people may regard it as England-centric or that it deals too much with the problems of Ireland, but as long as you take it as it is it is a very good read.
