If you're a smaller person and your soreness is mild, this may work for you. If you're an active person really trying to help your neck, shoulders, and back out, this probably won't help much.The product is not small, but it won't be quite big enough for a lot of people. I'm a 5'10" male and I definitely wish it reached farther down my back. If you're in your mid 5's or lower, the size is likely fine.The weight of the product feels really good, and it will stay where you want it to stay.This product retains neither heat or cold for very long. You can have it in your freezer over night and the cold will disappear in a handful of minutes. In fact, for both heat and cold, the instructions that come with the product claim it is only good for 1.5 to 2 minutes. Claimed cooling time is 2 hours in the freezer and 60 seconds in the microwave (but you must wait 12 minutes before heating again). In my experience, the cold seems to last somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes (I usually have the product in the freezer over night, which is where I store it) and the heat seems to last around the advertised 2 minutes.One side of the product has a much softer fabric. I assume that side is intended to rest on the skin. That side is never hot and never cold. It's not a big deal because you can use the other side, but it's pointless to have that side covered with that fabric.The company that sells this product seems to be a genuinely nice company. The product is packaged with a nice note. It is also packaged with instructions. The instructions are printed on a thicker paper (like poster board) for durability. I've not contacted their customer service, but based on the rest of my experience I'm going to assume their service is good.As previously stated, if you're a smaller person and your soreness is mild, you may find this product useful. If you're an active person and really trying to help your muscles, this isn't the product for you. I was going to rate the product a 3, but I've rated the product a 4 because it does not advertise itself for athletes or very active people. It is probably helpful for its intended demographic.

This product is fantastic and precisely what I was searching for. There were many other options, but the rave reviews on this one sold me. I'll start with the design....it warms both shoulders and neck all in one swoop, great for relieving stress tension, or in my case a pinched nerve and a shoulder problem. I'm old, I'm falling apart - but I use this several times throughout the day (warm) for excellent relief of my symptoms. The design leaves me able to actually walk around with it draping over the shoulders the way it does, and sitting upright in my office chair for work. Other neck wrap styles I've had in the past left me with having to stay put and propped on the couch, I was very pleased when I received this and tried it to find that I could go about my day and move around. I've even clipped it in the front and have been able to reach & bend for instance doing laundry! I'd also like to make mention that the seller has been exceptionally pleasant, I've reviewed the seller separately but thought I'd mention here as well. Other reviewers make note of the smell of the rice with this product, it was very noticeable at first for me but did not bother me, I've had perfumed ones in the past and didn't like them, I'll take the faint scent of rice any day. This actually is fading a little more with each use anyway, but if you do prefer a scent, there are instructions included in the purchase for aromatherapy use with essential oils. My wife has an elaborate Electric shoulder massage/heater. It cannot compete with this Amazon shoulder heater that heats in the microwave. I can pop it in the microwave for two minutes and it gives me about 30 minutes of warmth. I can place it underneath a fleece pull over and zip up the pull over and it forces the pressure on the heating pad to provide a wonderful sensation of “deep” muscle warmth. I had to re-order a second one because I had mistakenly put the original one in the washing machine and ruined it. I am 69 years old and I do a lot of resistance training with my back and shoulders using “The Total Gym”, advertised by the martial artist, Chuck Norris. It’s sooths my sore shoulder muscles when I have waited three days to exercise and then I tax my “senior citizen” muscles to the point of soreness. This heating pad is wonderful and I highly recommend it. Don’t make a mistake like me and put it in your laundry bag by mistake and ruin it by washing. The instructions clearly state do not wash in a machine.

I use this as a cold pack and provides benefit for a substantial period of time. Great value

Several years ago my wife was thrown from her horse. She was airborne for a few seconds and landed on her lower back. Operations ensued, and she now sets off TSA alarms regularly. Pain is a personal companion and one she never invited. Ten years ago the familiar deep incessant pain returned, but this time it was in her neck. Scans showed doctors the insidious cracks in upper facets, and she underwent two new visits to the operating theater and more metal. The horse riding incident was the culprit, as the initial impact was upper spine. Successful surgeries have left her with nagging relentless pain, which does respond to heat therapy. She's tried every kind of microwavable bean and seed bags available, and several have proved useful. An internet ad for MY HEATING PAD offered yet another tool, and we purchased. Exactly WHY this works so well is beyond our abilities to explain, but it does the job. Following directions (and the familiar trajectory of her history with heat therapy) this product provides satisfying deep relief. The seeds heat up in a few short minutes and the neck wrap is shaped to caress neck and shoulders, providing the best at-home therapy she has had in years. Fast acting, long lasting. It's not a cure, but it IS a friend.

Got this for my neck and shoulders and liked it that much I ordered one for my sons house so when I visit I have one there.

Microwave for 4 mins and keeps me warm for at least 15 minutes. I liked it, liked the shape and the neck collar. It is heavy though and my small microwave is barely enough to heat it. Well made and v sturdy. Definitely recommend

Heats up well and the horizontal segments mean that the filling doesn't sink to bottom when worn. covers all areas of neck & shoulders I need, but it's quite bulky and heavy which makes it difficult if you want to wear under a sweatshirt or thin fleece.

I bought this for my brother and he is an average sized guy---medium to large. The heating pad isn't wide enough for him and it doesn't have a strap to hold it together on the front. From the photos I thought this was much larger so I was disappointed by that. Seems to work Ok otherwise.
