Delicious but.....
As a diehard Hellmann's fan since I was a kid, (though I usually used whatever my parents bought on sale), hands down, my lifelong affair with Hellmann's has never wavered. That is, until this week, when, after searching taste tests across the Internet, I discovered that two other mayonnaise brands were neck-in-neck with Hellmann's: Duke's, and Kewpie. At 61, I decided to do a taste test of my own, buying Duke's last week, and receiving Kewpie today. The results? When the Duke's arrived, I set the Hellmann's aside. And today I received the Kewpie, which is delicious! However, there are several things about Kewpie that has lead me to place it third among all others. First of all, it's yellow, and I get why it's that way but the color combined with the red print is just a tiny bit offputting to me (psychosomatic call, I know, but it is what it is). Second, Kewpie has a vinegary "kick", which makes it taste both great and yet more like a salad dressing at the same time. I'm not a big fan of Miracle Whip, and while Kewpie doesn't have the same sweetness as the Whip, it reminded me of it for some reason. Then there's the obvious fact that it's expensive, and it's not made in the USA. Those things don't affect the taste, I know, but they're factors in whether I'd buy Kewpie again or not. And the jury's still out on that one, because it really is a delicious mayo, but not as good as Hellmann's, and surprisingly, neither one compares to Duke's, with it's lemony edge and zero fructose added. In New England, we Yankees love our Hellmann's because we'd never heard of Duke's (OR Kewpie) until recent commercials hit the airways. And to be honest, I'd say that any one of these 3 TOWER over all other brands, and would recommend giving any of these a try.

Sam the Cooking Guy got me hooked
I've been watching Sam the Cooking Guy on YouTube for about a year now. He ALWAYS uses Kewpie mayo, I don't think I've ever seen him use anything else! I decided to see what all the fuss was about and I can safely say I'm never buying Hellman's again! This stuff tastes so much better, has a much richer consistency, and I think it enhances anything you mix with it. It's pricey but it's worth it!

If Malt Vinegar and Heinz Mayo Had a Baby
My FAVORITE Mayo.I grew up eating this stuff as a kid, and I pretty much put this on everything. Especially when I make a diced guacamole rice bowl for a makeshift California Roll Rice Bowl with an Aioli of garlic, ginger, and sriracha. This mayonnaise has a flavor profile of classic Heinz Mayo, but with a serious kick of Rice Vinegar and a bit of sugar. It isn't as sweet as Miracle Whip, which I personally hate. But just a right balance of vinegar and a hint of sugar. If you are the type of weirdo like me when imagining if Mayo would go great with Malt Vinegar, and the answers comes invariably YES! Than try this out.

... a number of local chefs what one of their favorite ingredients for at home cooking/food prep was
The paper in the town where we lived - Richmond VA - had a feature asking a number of local chefs what one of their favorite ingredients for at home cooking/food prep was. Two mentioned Japanese mayo - which I had never heard of - so being the foodie wannabe that I am I immediately ordered from Amazon. Love it! Slightly eggier flavor perhaps? Certainly fresher tasting. And the dispensing "bags" are SO much better than what US mayo products are sold in. You can get the last drop, and they take up less and less room in the fridge as you dispense product.

So Pleasantly Surprised!
Okay, my husband and I have been die hard Best Foods/Hellmann's for as far back as I can remember. Now, not so much. Our first taste of Kewpie Mayo was on fried egg sandwiches with a bit of sriracha ketchup - wow!! That richness and slight vinegar-y zing was awesome. We've since used it with okonomiyaki, purple potato salad, egg salad and tuna salad. No, it tastes nothing like miracle whip.....that stuff is nasty. It has an eggy, savory, rich, slightly tangy flavor that I just can't compare to anything else. Umami? Any-woo, it's delicious!

Definitely not like your typical mayo!
For those of you lookin to try something new from a different country, this product will definitely satisfy! Unlike the vinegared, tart, creamy and slightly eggy flavor of your typical mayo such as hellman's, duke's, kraft, etc., this one packs a completely different flavor. The main note of flavor I get from it is that of egg yolks, but it's rich, creamy, and tangy without being too heavy. After testing it out in a few dishes, I'd have to say it tastes great on alot of things! Rice, sandwiches, egg salad, the rich flavor of this mayo is absolutely wonderful!

Most DELICIOUS Mayo EVER !
FIRST:I was not paid to give this review. Please do not sign up for this service. It really undermines why we share our observations. Keep it REAL PLEASE!So glad I was able to find this online. Otherwise you'd have to go to an Asian market to purchase. Most Mayonnaise lists "lemon juice".But the ratio must be better or more with this brand. It's really tangy and delicious!ALSO - - The lid has 2 different styles of distributing the Mayo.1. A smaller single string style that is used on Sushi dishes.2. Other style is a "star" shape which is DECORATIVE!Win Win on this Mayo.Try it - - you will be spoiled for regular run on the mill Mayo.

Read the description before ordering - it describes the product very accurately.
We all have different tastes and preferences, especially when it comes to food. To all the people that give this product low rating simply because they "don't like the taste" - don't venture out of your comfort zone and stay with your genetically modified world of Spam, Wonder bread and other "Big Macs".This is the first time I'd tried this mayo and I find that the description of the product describes what you might expect very accurately.I also like squeezable bottle - again, some people complaint about it.Product is very fresh with recent manufacturing date.Overall I highly recommend it.Value for money - it is slightly overpriced but it's very common with Made in Japan products - you pay for quality and exoticness (apparently there is such word :)).

Can I marry this mayo?
I am in love with this mayo. If I could marry this mayo, I would. I want the world to know how much I love kewpie! Ever since I got this stuff I've been making Japanse style egg salad sandwiches and experiencing daily bliss. It's like buttery, delicious, rich, yolky, yummy heaven on earth. I actually didn't like mayo all that much before I tried this. I thought: mayo is kinda bland, right? Well, not if it's kewpie! Kewpie is made with the yolks instead of the whole egg so it has a much richer flavor. I seriously cannot get enough of it. May kewpie and I never part.

Unusable and separated
I've bought kewpie mayo before from a speciality store and it was great. I tried ordering it from Amazon and it came completely separated and unusable. Unfortunately because it's a "grocery" item I cant return it.

Sam the Cooking guy is wrong on this.
Bought this for 12$ on Amazon after watching several videos on Youtube of Sam the cooking Guy who swears by this stuff. I tried it on a BLT. It almost ruined it, it stinks of a vinegar that I can't quite put my nose on. It smells really weird to me and doesn't taste very good. . I almost ruined my BLT with it and promptly dumped the rest of the bottle in the toilet. Not for me. Worst thing is, on my next trip to my local Walmart I found it and could have paid 6$ instead of 12$ to be as disappointed in the end. Try it, but don't expect the holy grail of mayo.

Good - IF you like Kewpie mayo!
I tried this because it was recommended by a cooking show, but if you don't have a taste for Kewpie mayo in general, this may not be for you. To me, it was ok when it was on something, but the taste wasn't quite what I liked (I prefer Hellmann's). It tastes a bit more... Sour? than regular mayo. I realize, though, that if you're brought up on this kind of mayo, it's probably to your taste, and it wasn't BAD, just tasted different than "normal" mayonnaise to me.
