OK read for cavers
This book didn't warm up for me until it reached Iceland (LOL) What would I want if I was in a pitch black cave for 18 days. well I'd want passion, violence, a bit of mystery with a twist at the end. Passion- thinking iconic GOT cave scene with Jon Snow & Egryt naked in a steam pool. What I got was Darwin & Eyrun after discovering a diamond cave & proving the theory, was going off to share a schoolyard kiss in a cold water cave pool. Violence- probably just enough without the cave collapsing on them all. Mystery- ??? maybe Petur (Mr nice guy) could become a secret saboteur consumed with greed. Twist- that can only be Karl doing what we knew he was going to do before they entered the cave. So 2 questions remain. Why did Karl keep Stevie (woman) alive when he intended to leave them all dead in the cave (needed a better reason than a bargaining chip) & can you really walk from Iceland to Scotland in semi darkness breathing stale air with no BA in 18 days? I did take it to bed with me one night to read a few more chapters, or did I need something to make me sleep?

Thrilling adventure
I loved the concept of this book, even a remote possibility that you could travel so far underground is thrilling but so scary too!!Main characters are excellently portrayed and you feel as though you become part of the team during their travels. I really couldn't put the book down. Can't wait to read book 2.

boring
I tried reading this book twice, first time i stopped at page 96, the second time, months later i made it topage 126. There are hundreds of books with archeologists and adventurers trying to find treasures and what not. This is probably the most boring one. Our hero finds a clue in every document he finds. When he islooking for an artefact, he finds it immediately. When he investigates, every stranger is willing and capableto help him and give him vital clues. Yawn. The idea for the lavatubes to span half the world was the onlyoriginal given in the whole story. I 'll skip every future book from this writer; it's not that he is the only one.

Iceland to SCOTLAND
Brilliant. The author has research lava tunnels well. Excitement throughout. Great rollercoaster ride filled with deceit, untrust with a sprinkling of romance

A good read
You will have to go long to get so many facts put in a readable format. Could not put the story down

An enjoyable read
Archeological (shouldn't that be archaeological?) and thriller are two words you don't often see in the same sentence. However, this book brings them together in an exciting tale of mystery, exploration and treachery. At times I had to suspend my disbelief (navigable lava tubes running over several hundred miles!), but I found this story an enjoyable read.
