Ganzo G717-YE Pocket EDC Folding Knife 440c Blade Tan G10 Handle w/Draw String Bag & Paper Box

Folks, I have to say it: I love Ganzo. I've never had a problem dealing with them, and their products tend to be exceptional for what you pay. I have a load of other knives, and I love those too (for the most part). This particular knife, however (G717-YE), is not exactly what I was expecting.First the positives.The design is beautifully simple, it has excellent texture, the blade is nicely stonewashed, the spine rounded pleasingly, and it came sharp enough that I didn't feel the need to break out stone and strop. Further, it is exactly centered and has little in the way of empty air between the liners and the blade proper.. The lockup is solid, the lock itself is easy for me to use, and the pocket clip has good retention. The color is even exactly what I was expecting, a lovely coyote tan.Now the downsides.This knife is a brick. That's not necessarily a bad thing per-say, but it is amazingly thick in the hand, and heavy as hell. This makes for a very comfortable grip, but in the pocket it is quite similar to shoving a candy bar made of solid steel in there. You will not forget that it is in your pocket, and woe betide you if you drop it on your foot, even closed. The pocket clip is also sadly underwhelming. I was expecting it to be merely acceptable with the single screw and the shape, but I was not expecting the amount of material that the clip did not grab. There's probably an inch and a bit of the handle that will rise above the edge of the pocket it's in; deep carry it is not. Still, the clip is removable, and remove it I shall.Summing it up, closing it out, this knife is an interesting beast. I'm not sad that I bought it. Would I buy it again for the same reasons? No. Would I buy it for different reasons? Yes! It is pretty inexpensive, and the blade and locking mechanism (Axis) are delightful. The action is smooth and the lock is light enough that I don't feel like I'm punishing my fingers by using it. However, the lack of a really usable pocket clip, the width of the knife, and sheer weight force me to rate this only as a 4.0/5.My recommendation is to take off the pocket clip immediately and put on a lanyard, and put it in a wide pocket.

I like this knife. Opens easily and is sharp out of the box. Good size and seems to hold up well to all the uses I’ve put it to. I like the price and availability.

I highly recommend this knife, really any Ganzo knife. It is quite honestly comparable to my Benchmade knives. The biggest difference? The Ganzo knife has a BETTER Axis lock, much smoother and less gritty feeling, then the Benchmade that I have. And it definitely did not cost 100 bucks like the Benchmade. The grips on this model are a little strange, I have larger hands and feel like I have a difficult time using the Axis lock. But a little work with a Cone sander and a Dremel and this is a favourite knife now.Bottom line- Buy a Ganzo and be happy. They are great knives at incredible prices.

I purchased this knife just to check out all its qualities. For the monies it cannot be beat for a beater knive. The steel is easy to sharpen, the lockup is tight and sturdy and the fit and fitness is excellent. The only think that will improve it will be to cut down the thickness of the handle. It could be thinner, meaning the scales can be thinned down. The blade was pretty sharp but I touched it up with a sharpening stone and stropped it. It glides cutting paper. All in all well worth the money spent!

This is a very nice knife, but there are a couple things to be aware of. I had the same problem with the thumb stud that has been mentioned before. It gets loose and will fall off if you're not careful. An application of Thread Locker solved that problem. The other problem is the pocket clip, the G10 is cut in such a way that the pocket clip will swivel after a couple weeks of EDC. I'm not sure there is an easy solution for this. A better G10 pattern would have prevented this. Once this swivel gets too bad I may replace the clip with a lanyard.

Normally I do not come down hard on a product or service. An exception is in order for this product. The knife that I ordered was supposed to have tan handle scales. They had turned black in transit. ???? The second issue, and the most important one is the apparent lack of quality in either the blade steel, or of the heat treatment of the blade. As a toolmaker for fifty years, I have seen problems with both parts of a finished product. I used a sharpening fixture that I had made a while back to produce the initial bevel on the blade, and finished a second bevel with the fixture and a 1000 grit stone. It does not want to take a working edge. Then finish on other parts seem nice to look at, but without an edge it is not a knife. If this one is a freak, I would like to hear from the vendor, or I may very well use it as a basis for another blade of my own choice. 440C is supposed to be a good mid level stainless blade steel. Something went wrong along the way.

For the price I paid for this knife, it has worked out great. I love the stud to be able to open with a single hand. The grip is nice and textured in case your hands are wet or dirty. Great knife for the price.

There was a little play in the knife I tried to tighten it but still some play thumb stud fell off as well I own two ganzo knives the second one is perfect but I still recommend them

acheté comme couteau de tous les jours, la marque GANZO copie à bon prix des modèles éprouvés. mais l'acier utilisé n'est pas terrible,il ne garde pas longtemps son fil et si c'est vraiment du 440C ,il n'est pas correctement traité. bref pour un bon couteau, rester dans une bonne marque et payer un peu plus
