Nikon BF-1B SLR Body Cap for Lens Mount

Works great to replace the one we lost

Bought this  Nikon BF-1B SLR Body Cap for Lens Mount  after reading an article from  Photojojo  describing a body cap being used as a pinhole camera. As it turned out, I ended not using it for that purpose, because milling down the raised Nikon lettering seemed to be more of a hassle than I wanted to go through.My older body cap was the Nikon BF-1, and owners of classic Nikon 35mm SLRs will remember that one in black plastic from the '80s and before. It has a small small white index dot for lining up on the camera body, and inside the cap it's marked "BF-1" and "MADE IN JAPAN" in raised letters. But using that cap on a contemporary Nikon DSLR is not recommended, as I understand, as it could damage the contacts, so I put it away among my collectables.The new BF-1B DSLR Body Cap is a product of evolution. The original Nikon body cap from the 1960s had a "Nippon Kogaku Tokyo" logo embossed on the front, and that's the one that I had on my original Nikon F SLR. This was replaced sometime in the '70s with the Type 2, which looked similar to the current body caps, and fit far better. The original BF-1 (or Type 3) came later in the '70s and was still used in the '80s, as that's the one that came with my Nikon EL2. The BF-1A came in the mid-1980s, and evidently had a number of quiet changes.Will probably go for one of the off-brand  Fotodiox Camera Body Cap for Nikon  models for my pinhole camera experiment, as those don't have raised logos. But this new  Nikon BF-1B SLR Body Cap for Lens Mount  fits perfectly on my DSLRs, so it will remain as just that: an excellent body cap.8/29/2012

As any wedding photographer knows it's always a challenge dealing with the various personalities you find in a wedding party. You have the doting mom, the grumpy dad, the problematic kid.That's where the Nikon BF-1B comes in.The Nikon BF-1B is the most awesome ice breaker of all time. I usually keep a handful of these babies in my pocket along with the matching BF-4 "end cap". There is no better way to keep things moving and get the shots than showing the magic of sealing up a camera body with the Nikon BF-1B. I mean I guess it's because most people have never seen a DSLR without a lens attached. Come up to a crowd of kids doing mischief and show them a D3 with a Nikon BF-1B on it and it stops them in their tracks. "Hey mister what's wrong with your camera?!?" "How are you going to take pictures with that!!!!" One twist on the BF-1B, another twist on a BF-4, and David Copperfield ain't got nothin' on me! I tell the kids I'll do the trick again if they get in line and behave themselves for the pictures and they fall right in!I can't emphasize enough how rare it is to find a piece of injection molded plastic which brings such joy to so many. I will definitely buy this product again...and again...and again...as I give them away.

Nikon BF-1B body caps are to protect the innards of a Nikon F-mount SLR or DSLR. The Nikon ones fit the best and are very sturdy. They are a bit pricey but securely fit onto the cameras and keep out dirt and dust. Keep a couple of spares around as they can get lost. Really the Nikon ones do the job best.

Misplaced my original and this is a true Nikon replacement. Came sealed in Nikon package. Fit perfectly on my camera body. Well worth the minimal cost to keep your expensive camera protected. Shipping less than two days!!

It is a OEM replacement cap for your Nikon camera.It works just as it should, as long as you bought the right model.Mine is Nikon D5000, and I am sure D60/D3000/D3100/D3200/D3300/D5100/D5200 also uses this cap.Most people would never need to use body cap.If you have a lens attached to the body, then there is no need for this cap.It will come handy if you have to send your camera out for service (repair/cleaning).Unless you kept everything in a place where you can retrieve readily, you wouldn't be able to find the one that came with the body.That is why I ended up buying this cap.It is bit expensive for small round piece of plastic.But it fits like how it should, so I shouldn't complain much.

Nikon BF-1B SLR Body Cap for Lens Mount - nothing fits better than a stock Nikon body cap.

This is Nikon’s improved body cap and well worth changing to if you are still using the old one.

This is now in use on an old Nikon EM (1979 model). As such it will fit all Nikon F mount cameras right back to the F2. I do not know it the original Nikon F was the same mount, but I suspect it was and so this will fit that too.

Does exactly what is says on the tin and I find it better to have a spare one or two in the kit bag for those times when the original is misplaced or lost, prevents the ingest of dust and the likes when the lens is removed, and the camera is lighter and easier to handle without a lens attached when making any menu adjustments to the body. Expensive for what they are but I feel happier carrying a spare..................never lost one yet, but there's always a first time eh!.

I followed Mr. Rockwell's advice and purchased a genuine Nikon body cap. Not sure it was money well spent as the other I purchased are "almost" identical. Nothing wrong with the product, just slightly more expensive than others I have purchased.With it being a genuine Nikon product, it performs its primary job stunningly well.

Nikon BF-1B Body Cap for SLR - Fits on my camera, unsurprisingly as it's a Nikon DSLR, and does exactly what it states; it's a body cap! It's also a bloody fortune (£9.99 GBP) for a bit of moulded plastic! Love Nikon kit, hate the extortionate cost of their accessories, but can't fault the quality.
