It's just too big to use for frothing milk
It's just a bit too awkward and big to use when frothing milk for coffee drinks. Easy enough to read, seems accurate and fast, but just slightly too large.

Works Great for Steaming Milk--not quite instant though
It works great for steaming milk. Since I've purchased this, I use it every time I make a latte (several times per day). Even with lots of practice and experience, it's not possible to be precise about the milk temperature without a thermometer. So using something like this can help you to always get the perfect temperature.Having said that, however...the temperature is not instantly displayed on this thermometer. It lags quite a bit. I've learned that for 4.5 ounces of milk, I have to stop steaming when the thermometer reads about 15 degrees below where I want it to be, and for 6 ounces, that decreases slightly to about 12 degrees. It will all depend on how powerful your steamer is and how much milk you are steaming, but I think it'll generally be in the ballpark of this thermometer reading 10 to 15 degrees F behind the actual temperature by the end of the steaming.Once you know that, it's easy to use. When I want 155 degree F milk, I just turn off the steam right after it passes the 140 degree mark.

Works Well, It flickers when exposed to instant Extreme Temps
I don't know if all thermometers do this when you suddenly dipped into boiling water from room temperature but the needle flickers/skips to the higher temperature instead of rising slowly. I'm guessing it does this because it is a big dial and your normally suppose to gradually go up in temperature and not instantly shock it. The needle goes back down smoothly though when taken out of the water back to room temperature. The metal beaker/cup clip does not seem to be adjustable and is fixed at the top of the thermometer with the connecting part coming down 1.5" from the dial. So you can technically adjust the depth of the tip from a range about 1 inch. This is my first thermometer so I do not know if the "flickering up" is normal but it seems to be giving me an accurate measure. It comes with a calibration tool or you can use a small wrench to calibrate it depending on your need. Besides that, the thermometer works great and is sensitive enough to show from room temp to when I am gripping it. Great product with a large dial for a great price.

Get the 1.75" view. Used professionally hvac. Good
Compared to a murcury thermometer read the same reading at room temperature. Good.I use a similar "milk thermometer" (also made in china) for HVAC auto and residential. I was told by my master "don't waster your money on digital they aren't accurate enough for HVAC". He selected I bought a matco milk thermometer.I use this professionally: i have no need for "3 second reads" I need a reading that is, say, 1 degree off but not much more.THESE DO THAT. Nay-sayers who are comparing to digital are wrong. And no batteries !They react rather quickly to temperature change - there is no wait really. They are good for HVAC diagnosis.

Accurate and easy to read!
After reading reviews of different brands for days, I concluded that these analog milk thermometers may become inaccurate and need calibration.First thing I did when it arrived was test it on ice water and it was accurate! I also checked the temperature with my digital thermometer and they were spot on the same! The clip was hard to slide down at first, but when you get the hang of it (pinch the clip a bit), it was easy.I used it when steaming milk. The dial is very easy to read. The red color on the dial was very useful - I did not even look at the actual temp anymore, just when the needle is close to the red mark. This is not really an "instant" read, but fast enough. I still suggest turning off the steam a bit earlier than your target temp.I would recommend this!

Not high quality
Not a high quality unit but does give temp. The dial moves and changes the reading. Kind of cheap. If you can afford it get a Better one.

Milk steaming perfection!
Bought this to go with my new Breville Barista Express to steam milk to the perfect temperature without scalding the milk. I know all the YouTube videos say use her hand to feel when it's too hot to touch then turn off the steam, but I find that if I use my hand, it's too hot for me to touch around 120 degrees and that is not the desired temp for steaming milk! It is easy to read and is not in the way. I put mine on the left side of the steaming pitcher and put the steam wand off toward the right side of the pitcher. Easy peasy. Perfectly steamed mild every time!

Accurate if calibrated
This Thermometer is not really accurateI was wondering why I was failing my yoghurt recipe every time and I did the test :- in a hot pot of water I have put this Thermometer and a precise wine Thermometer and the result is :- this Thermometer shows 62°C as the precise wine thermometer tested and calibrated shows 42°C this means a difference of 20°I will have to apply the calibration procedure and come back for more....After applying the calibration procedure ( please see the video furnished in the product description), I was able to bring this Thermometer in phase with my calibrated one, within 1 degree close. This is now an acceptable result and accurate enough to be used.

Not quite instant, but works just fine
The unit is within a degree of my digital thermometer when it comes to reading temperate. is it instant? No, it takes about three seconds for it to reach 160 after I pull the frothing pitcher out from under the steam wand. It's accurate enough that I can cut the steam about five seconds before it hits 160 and consistently hit 160. Works well enough for my needs and the price was right. Cleans nicely and the water seal is excellent Would recommend.
