Quality of this Hawke is exacrtly what a buyer would expect from anything AL MAr builds.
This is way more knife than anyone would expect from the low price. The metal work is excellent, and the jigged bone handle is matched perfectly to the metal. The overall appearance would make one think the price would be several times higher. I purchased two for gifts, but was so impressed I kept one for my own collection.

Perfect Coin Pocket Knife
Al Mar died, and these are inexpensive knock-offs, but... I wanted the longest-blade one-hand open/close knife that securely fit in my jeans coin pocket. Al Mar had the perfect knife, but too expensive for something I might to lose, or would use for rough daily needs. This is the same size & design, but only $40.I had no issue with one-handed open/close, even when new and tight (maybe smaller hands or my technique?). The blade is 3/16” longer than my last best coin-pocket option, despite the body being the same length. It never falls out of my coin pocket. The scales are grippy. Nice look.FYI- The stiff mechanism loosened up quickly, but the blade is still secure when locked open.

This is the Almar you won’t mind carrying
I like the design of this knife and have an original. But it’s hard for me to really use it like I need to.This one however is quite reasonably priced, and I have no qualms using it as a pocket knife needs to be used. Holds an edge well, sharpens back up quickly. The fit and finish is not what the previous generation was. Don’t get this wrong, if you’ve never encountered the Seki, Japan model, you would never know it what your missing. Just get this and enjoy the elegant design.

Great little pocket knife.
The company has been sold since Al Mar’s death. I have several old models and this new one. Still excellent quality, materials and workmanship. SHARP!

Not sharp at all.
Update: bad quality control, not up to Al Mar's standard. One of the brass pins is not seated flush with scale and is sharp. The liner and scales have gaps and have been filled with epoxy. And lastly the exposed liner at the lock release has not been rounded and has a very sharp edge. After reading all the warnings accompanying this knife I almost didn't open it. No need to worry though as it is not sharp enough to cut anything let alone skin.
